In US law, ALL Presidents when departing from office can give pardon or clemency to any US citizen convicted of a crime. In theory, yes he can do it.

Dershowitz says that it's possible, it's just that it has never been done before. I think more likely is that he could appeal the convictions and get them thrown out. That would be easier if he stacked the judicial system.

Not quite, presidents can issue pardons at any time during their time in office for any Federal convictions. There is a tradition of granting pardons at the end of their terms though.

True. And virtually all personal shenanigans and crimes are insignificant compared to starting illegal foreign wars, invading countries under false pretences, and purposely disrupting other countries' political processes.

That's OK EP. I didn't miss it . Trump is and was a man of incredible wealth and incredible power. I think the comment that he made was about 10 years before he stood for the Presidency and obviously it was either how he thought/thinks or it was just male 'bravado'. He definitely said it - no doubting that.

If I was with a few mates and someone said that, would I stand up, walk out and post it over the internet - probably not. If they became Prime Minister a few years later, would it be an issue? No. To me when you see some of the atrocities in the world, I don't see it as a big thing.

If Joe Biden had said it, I wouldn't see it as a big thing. Just as when Bill Clinton, a married man and then President of the USA had $ex with a young intern in the Oval Office and then lied to Ken Starr, under oath, about what he'd done - I didn't get worked up by that either.

If that is important to you, then I'm ok with that. We're all different. Obviously there are lots of people in the US share my thoughts and there will be lots that share yours. Just not enough to win an election .

I don't approve of Clinton's actions but it's pretty clear consent was given and indeed she was head over heels for him at the time.

I thought President's could pardon any crime, except impeachment.

I'm not convinced meaningful consent can be given when there is a huge power differential and celebrity status involved. She was foolish and he took advantage .

As I said, I don't approve of his actions but from her perspective and in her own words it was consenting, and that satisfies the legal definition.

I think his actions were immoral for a few reasons, the worst parts being lying about it and hanging her out to dry.

And, I think parallels drawn between Clinton's behaviour and Trumps are:

a) Laughable, and
b) Not relevant
