Personally I would ask the lady if she wanted you to keep an eye out for her in the future.
You could say you wouldn't want her to think you were interfering or being nosey so would be quite happy to take a step back and leave matters to her daughter if that's what she prefers.
I'm fairly sure she won't want that but at least if you ask her you'll know for sure.
