That's a bold statement to make? Especially when you see the advance of right wing parties across the whole of Europe. Let's face it no one really expected Reform to get any seats, yet they got over 14% of the vote. You ignore them at your peril especially with what Labour have done this first few months.
Of course Labour could be proved right and the early pain could become a gain before the next election.

It?s a bit odd to be more annoyed at the government who are dealing with this( and the post office scandal, infected blood, Grenfell etc etc) than the government who didnt.

Even when as in this case, the solutions are sometimes not to everyone?s liking.

Just out of interest BFP is there anything that the current government has been involved with that you don?t support. From all the received gifts, the winter fuel allowance, the Chagos Islands, the budget, Millibands GB energy plans, WASPI women, maybe delaying some council elections, Rayners house building plans with building on green belt land, border security, cosying up the the EU, Starmer hardly in this country with constant trips abroad and all the perceived broken promises. Is it just dogma or do you genuinely believe this has been a brilliant first 5 months in power?

OP67 here seemingly forgetting that the Tories remained in power despite changing leader 4 times.

You still seem to missing one very important point which I've mentioned before. Even if Starmer is convicted of being a mass murderer it will mean he's gone, but the Labour government will still be in power. Keep signing the petition, and dream that Santa has given you what you wish for this time next week.

I find it hard how anyone can defend this Labour government and I used to be a Labour voted. Thankfully I'm not to blame for this bunch of useless lot!!

What do you think is going to happen? Maybe a new petition will be started and it might make 4 or 5 million signatures. It will be just as pointless as this one is. The only way there can be an early election is if the sitting Prime Minister calls it (not going to happen), the reigning monarch calls it (not going to happen), or if a vote of no confidence in the government is passed in the House of Commons. Seeing as 402 of the 650 MPs are Labour, I'm sure you can work that one out for yourself. This isn't defending the Labour Party, it's simply stating facts.

The fact is the election result is the voice of the people (however it was arrived at and by whatever percentages and all the rest) and has to be respected until the next election comes along. People with sour grapes just have to suck it up and get on with it (just like Brexit (staggering hypocrisy by some between the two topics)).

Spot on, it is what it is and at the moment nothing is going to change, however the vocal Sneinton Popular Front on here seem to have the inability to accept that what they wished for has turned out to be even worse than what was before Labour and that was bad, the solution as always in life is compromise which most balanced people can do, but the Left have this inability to be balanced, you question something and they go into meltdown blaming anyone but looking at themselves.

Why do you always quote a post of mine but hardly ever address the point within? It?s sort of how online interaction should work.

There?s elements of getting rid of the IHT exemption on farmland that could be tweaked, maybe raise the thresholds somewhat or only make it payable when it?s sold. I would probably delay the means testing of the WFA for a year so all those eligible for pension credits have time to get their claims in. The more I hear about the waspi women the worse the case for their grievance becomes, though I agree that Labour politicians shouldnt have stood beside those ladies waving placards. I generally think taxing wealthy landowners offspring and not giving public money to largely decently well off pensioners are good things. And I?m pretty sure you do too. In 2017 the Tories said they would scrap the WFA and did you vote for Corbyn and McDonnell in 2019 when they said they would give the waspi women 58 BILLION quid?

Your other items are classic bad faith right wing press talking points. Are you really pretending to have a strong view on the Chagos Islands? The absolute epitome of something no one would have cared about if the Tories did it. As I inferred in the post you quoted, the government is getting difficult things done which after the neglect of the last 14 years and a 5 year term in office to come seems wise to me. Both public services and public finances are in a shocking state and they both need fixing. That will take time and money.

Ive addressed your question in good faith. I do find it hard though to take some of the faux outrage about this seriously when the people shouting have voted repeatedly to cut public services to the bone and voted in blatantly dishonest politicians. Especially when most of them voted as well for the Brexit thats made us all much poorer. It?s good that you and others like you have such high expectations of this government, it?s just such a pity you didn?t apply those standards for the last 15 years.

There is a bit of a difference. The rules say a government is elected for 5 years, but there is no fixed term for EU membership. That means if it obviously isn't working (in or out) then you can fix it sooner rather than later.
