A Johnny Giles story…
Many years ago, maybe 30/40 years ago, I played golf with him in an invitation event at Edgbaston. There was an evening dinner and I went home after golf and later returned to join him for the dinner. I took with me a photo of my two sons (then aged circa 10) in their Albion kit. I asked Johnny to sign the back and make some remarks which he willingly did.
The following morning as our lads got up, I said that I had got Johnny Giles to sign the back of their photo. They said …thanks Dad….who’s Johnny Giles?
7th feb 1959 Leicester 2-2..derek Hogg and Ronnie Allen 🤔 I think long time ago?

Nice story.....I believe he still resides in the midlands although he may not now be in great health. He was a pundit over here for Irish internationals until a few years back. One of the few who spoke about the game in a simplistic way. He never had time for showy footballers. Always banged on about doing the simple things correctly. Closing down etcetera...
I probably stopped watching internationals after he went of air.
September 22nd 1962. West Bromwich Albion 5 (Derek Kevan 3, Kenny Foggo, Don Howe) Bolton Wanderers 4. (Francis Lee 3, Wyn Davies)
I was sat on the wall at The Woodman Corner.
There were 9 goals, 2 hattricks, 3 penalties
Home to Newcastle 1st September 1965. United won 2-1 but I was hooked!
I was 13 and my dad had a blazing row with my mom. It was a Wednesday evening so he looked in the Evening Mail, saw the Baggies were playing and took me along to get out of the house! We were living in Shirley at the time, so most people followed Blues.
February 3rd 1973. For my eighth birthday, my dad took me and some friends to watch us play Swindon Town in the 4th round of the FA cup. We beat them 2-0 with Tony Brown and Len Cantello scoring the goals. One of the best birthday presents I ever got!
