Anyone of a certain age can clearly see that we have a soft, spoiled generation who are mortally offended or at least they claim to be, by absolutely anything and everything. They'd have been terrified of my maths teacher, out history teacher who would hurl a board rubber at people and the geography teacher who caned me, my mate was even slippered at junior school.

God only knows who will defend the country if war ever does break out again.
Don't be soft. This is a lazy stereotype pushed by ignorant people who can't be bothered to look beyond their own privilege.

I am of a certain age and had teachers who did the same thing. They didn't terrify me, but I did (and still do) think they were **** teachers. I learned far more from those who didn't need to resort to violence to keep control. I can see the abuse you received from your teachers has really scarred you, but you need to get over it and not be such a snowflake.

The boomers and Gen X have had it really easy; no significant wars involving the UK, relatively affordable houses, cheap / free education, well paid jobs, not having to contend with 0 hours contracts or having to work for free just to have the vague chance of a shot at a job etc etc. I floated through life comparatively and now own my house, am well paid and have never had to risk my life to defend my country. I look at what my daughters have to contend with and it amazes me that they cope at all (and that doesn't even begin to cover misogyny, harassment etc that they have to face in addition to their male counterparts).

I am sure you won't be offended by this as you are made of far sterner stuff.

A virtual handshake to you sir (or ma'am). You are clearly a grown up human being who doesn't break down and blame anyone who doesn't look like them for all their miserable failings in life. Well said.

I'm living the life, point out my 'miserable failings'?

I'm not stuck in a grey, dreary, zero hours **** hole for the rest of my life and neither are my daughters, thank God. You're waking up every day in a society that is falling down around you, in every, possible way and lefties like your are largely to blame for allowing it to happen.

I'll be in Colombia for a month from Feb whilst you're freezing your tits off because you can't afford to have your heating on.

I was sunbathing today with a view from the house over the Med on one side and the Troodos mountains on the other and now I'm off to the taverna to ponder my 'miserable failings', ta, ta.

For someone who has it all, you don't half spend a lot of time arguing with strangers on the internet or ranting about a country you no longer live in and appear to have washed your hands of. Why are you bothered Sir?

You don't strike me as a very happy chap.

I genuinely hope you start making enough to afford PiesPlayer so you don't have to keep begging others to post highlights on here.

Living away from Nottm myself for years, it's been a renaissance Godsend! UPIES!

Not how I see it. I've visited lots of different countries and enjoyed visiting them all, but I've never for a single second been tempted to leave the country of my birth, or even the city of my birth. I love what Nottingham offers, it ticks all the boxes for what I want from life. It's been bloody cold today, but what sort of wimp runs away from a bit of cold weather?

Fair enough. I'd leave the UK (again) in a heartbeat if it wasn't for my kids being settled here. The weather would be just about bearable if everything worked well, but that's clearly not the case. It's not about being a "wimp", it's about wanting a higher quality of life.

That's exactly what it's about, and my number one priority is just the same as yours - having close family close nearby. My three daughters are all within a 15 minute walk or drive, so I couldn't ask for more. My secondary pleasures are having the footy team I've supported for 53 years easily accessible, lots of racecourses within an easy drive, a test and county cricket ground close by, and lots of parks and country walks in the area. Nowhere else in the world can offer me that.
