Of course, you may recall that Sleepy Joe pardoned his convicted son recently and Louise Haigh resigned in dishonourable circumstances.

This has nothing to do with the judicial system as such, that a judge can so rebuke a defendant and point out the seriousness of ntyhe crime then dish out no punishment and then wish him well, a joke.

This will echo round the world and show just how corrupt a nation can be and what a monied politicion can get away with. Yanks - you deserve Trump and all he represents.

I?ve just got back from 5 weeks in the USA and the people out there are more than happy to talk about the recent election.
I was in Florida, Texas and California and the feeling of raised confidence since Trump was elected is palpable.
I obviously still have my accent and so Americans are also aware of what the British media and some of the British people think of Trump.
The overwhelming opinion is sort your own country and government out before abusing the US.
I?ve been there many times in the past and even after the 2016 election never seen this level of optimism.

It will probably only echo around inside your head.

The rest of the world are more concerned with problems in their own countries.

Hmm. I think what much of the rest of the world is concerned about right now are the problems in their countries about to be caused by the U.S.

Denmark, Panama and Ukraine look to be top of that list but with some notable exceptions everyone is looking over their shoulder.

I think the next couple of years are going to be hilarious/fascinating/terrifying - depending on your demographic and relative financial security.

But to get back to the original topic:

What did anyone expect? Any sentence of substance would have been appealed until after inauguration day, open which POTUS will promptly pardon himself *. The judge would have been acutely aware of his no-win situation.

There is the concept of Law and Order. And then there is Realpolitik.

*I have no idea whether it's constitutionally legitimate for a POTUS to pardon himself, but even if it isn't, that wouldn't stop it happening.

Hang around in your echo chamber, you hear only echoes I guess.

Apparently it IS ok for the President to grant an overreaching pardon to his son and possibly some of his cronies though.

Exactly so, as the old saying goes 'when America sneezes, we catch cold'. Already in the States, Zuckerberg is confident enough to end Meta's positive discrimination, in the name of diversity, hiring policy, would anyone be so bold in the UK as to declare that? Not with this government, certainly.
