Methadone does play a part in keeping addicts alive. However, there does not appear to be enough investment in rehabilitation. It should be cheaper to run the drug clinics, but where is the rehabilitation element.

Might find that the unintended consequence is that chemist's whose main income is derived from methadone, find that their city centre sites are no longer viable.

Speculation on my part, but I wonder the SNP would start a new system that did not save them money, and that money could be invested in rehabilitation.

I played in a golf match between Islay Golf Club and Kilmacolm Golf Club about 20 years.
The Kilmacolm Golf Club member told me that he owned two pharmacies in Glasgow and he was receiving ?10,000 (ten thousand pounds) per year from the Scottish Government per pharmacy to dispense a daily swig of methadone to drug users registered with his pharmacies.
I think it was stated on the BBC Reporting Scotland news last week that there were 100 deaths from drugs in Glasgow in 2024.
