So the point there is, it appears Dan wanted more dosh than the radar says he's worth. It's definitely better to let him go in that case, especially if he can get it elsewhere.

Even if the fee we receive for him only covers what we paid, that's still good - means we only paid wages for a fantastic player.

Overall this is a mixed result for me though. On balance over the course of his time here we did very well to have him and it's a sign the radar is working of course. But one of our top players leaving in the middle of a promotion push is always going to make us nervous.

"We nevertheless maintained a good relationship and rejected several substantial bids this month and last summer, with us prepared to retain Dan?s services up until the conclusion of his contract should our high valuation of him not be met in this transfer window.

"This latest offer, however, was acceptable to us and, with Dan informing us that he wanted the move to happen, we have sanctioned it."

But that says to me that they did get a substantial offer, so we've likely made a tidy profit on him as well. If the profit covered his wages, effectively we had a top player for nothing while he was here. If it was more... we had a top player who paid us to be here. So I can see the long term value.

Just... timing... ugh.
So you think we paid 200.000+ for Dan.😀
