Nice to see Edwards looking fit.

A lot of debate about should we /shouldn't we, but it looks to me like there wasn't a choice between selling or keeping the good DC. It was a choice between selling, or keeping a sulking DC who may well have gone missing until Easter when he suddenly decides it's time to put himself in the shop window.

Given what we know now, it's possible to build a narrative of that's what we've been seeing this season already.

He must have had a sulk after MK were knocked back in August. 7th Sept he was unexpectedly absent v Accrington. Maybe he needed time to a) give his head a wobble and b) have a reminder that he can be dropped if need be. Good man management if true. We won that game without him at a canter (and Edwards was excellent in DCs position).

Then we've had a lengthy spell missing through a mystery injury, no info or timescales on it. Lo and behold, he's back and fighting fit in time to reassure his next employers.

I thought he was a ***** retention in the summer but this season he's been too mercurial. You never knew which DC was going to show up and at his worst he weakens the team.

I would rather have kept him but only if his head was in the right place. As for coping without him, well - there are 22 other teams that will also not have a Dan Crowley. It doesn't seem to have been a problem for Walsall.

Great post. I agree, DC has not been the same player this season, probably his head was turned over the possibility of moving to MK. I think overall we did well to get a fee for him and not letting him go on a free in the summer.

Players know they have the power to force whatever they deem fit. DC has done this himself. In fact if DC had been more intelligent than he has been, he could have signed a pre contract at MK and added wonga to his pay whilst citing I?ve saved you 300k, so I want 100k signing on fee as an example.
Notts got an offer we deemed acceptable and DC wanted to go? move on, the club and player have.
As Don noted you?re not correct on the first part I?m afraid. But you are absolutely right on the second. I was merely trying to point out that I feel morality and acknowledgment of what you have agreed to (legally) should apply more prominently in football as it?s too easily cast aside. No complaints from me on how Notts have handled this - they?ve got it spot on.

We had picked up someone who had become a bit of a journeyman on a free and now have some seven figure sum and a lot of good football out of him. He may well become a journeyman again. We just about did the same with Bostock, someone Crowley knew before coming here and a fellow Christian. I can't help wonder whether LW and/or Bostock moving on had some effect or merely the chance of promotion last year dissipated and he doesn't see SM as the person to do it this year.

Certainly no point in keeping someone here whose heart isn't into it especially if he really is on a higher wage than most as that has a negative impact on everyone else.

The Bros and their system come up with the goods time and time again even if the occasional failure arrives. I'd be surprised if there isn't something more in the pipeline. We've had a bad run of injuries which are mostly clearing up but nothing to say more injuries aren't awaiting.

All I can say to Dan is thanks for what you did but somehow I never really felt you were a Pie. Enjoy your plastic surroundings.
