The gulf between the clubs was not too great, as shown by the statistics and certainly towards the end Queens had St Mirren very nervous until the tie was ended with breakaway goal at the end immediately after the late penalty decision which did not go our way. Fine margins again but that was a reasonable performance against a Premier league side.

I agree in principle Spike, but with a bit more guile we could have taken more from the game. I have to say I was infuriated by setting up our game plan as exactly the same as the first half of the league season, which has been an abject failure??.. so why attempt the same trick against a team 2 leagues above?
We were unfortunate with the first goal from the long throw, but the team should have been aware of that tactic. Dickensen was in a class of his own causing real problems in the St Mirren defence so we were unlucky to go two down, but again we allowed a free header.
In the 2nd half, Murphy was far too slow to change things up, - but when we scored he should have thrown on McKechnie and Walker to scare the living daylights out of St Mirren.
Once they took off their goal scorer they looked ordinary and if Brooks had been given the penalty which looked a stick on - I think Queens would have taken them to penalties or sneaked a win.
Alas that is not to be, but we could and should have taken our chances in terms of changing personnel. That being said, Queens didn?t look 2 leagues apart.
