Recycling the ball is not winning the ball back, it is keeping possession and trying something different. i.e. try an attack down one wing, and instead of putting in a cross as only 1 striker has bothered to get in there and is surrounded by 3 defenders, you keep possession (sideways and backwards), and try to attack a different way.

Our XG will be poor as we have plenty of shots but most are off target.
