Whatever we get for Jatta ( if he goes ) will pale into insignificance compared to the cost of missing out on league 1 and all it's benefits. I'm sure after making these comments I'll be called " a bed wetter " or other disparaging remarks. Football is also an entertainments business and if we don't go up and weaken the side we will lose some of the gates we have had this year as well as bigger gates and bigger share of pot in league 1. So please let's not sell him now but wait till at least end of season so we can assess once the dust has settled
There are also some who want the club to do another "insert owner with big ego here" gamble and hope it works out OK. If they bankrupt us then we hope for yet another saviour to come and bail us out. There is a balance and I think we are just about getting it right just now, not perfect but could be so much worse.

No there isn't. There's not a single person on here that wants the club to go sh1t or bust. Everyone appreciates the work the Bros have done and are extremely grateful (I presume?). ALL the "lack of ambition" people are suggesting is that promotion is there for the taking so let's throw everything possible at it. That's where I am.

    Which people said that?

You questioned if we spent another year in League Two, only one bad season away from the National League would that be progression.

If we finished in playoffs, don’t win them and stayed in League Two for another year then yes that’s clear progress from 14th isn’t it? Whatever the perceived strength is or isn’t.

Who knows next season League Two could be weaker

Seemingly the same posters were saying the lack of ambition in the transfer market, and sticking with the BT Engineer would mean we?d never be in with a shout of promotion. All that happens when time proves them wrong is they move the goalposts to make the same point.
That is so true. So much said conveniently forgotten whilst the goalposts are moved.

People shouldn?t fall into the trap that all of a sudden if we keep Jatta we will get promoted

No one wants that but I think some (not saying you) seem to want us to buy better but never sell with no regard for for potential consquences. It's a natural thing with football fans which is why a fan should never buy their own club, when they do their heart rules their head (Hardy!!)

That?s not strictly true is it. I?d say the general consensus is most people want Jatta to stay whilst ?1m has to be acknowledged as tempting for the club to accept. If I was the owners I wouldn?t accept it at this point of the season unless there is someone to step in and another also as back up.
It?s not accepting mediocrity it?s accepting the process looking outside in is working.

Everyone wants promotion on here, there?s a reason we spend too much time on here, we?re totally invested in the club and the teams performance.

As for L1, it?s not the golden goose, we probably won?t even be a great deal better off financially and that?s why it?s not worth going sh1t or bust to get there.

I remember Trew saying it's better to be at the top of league 2 battling promotion than struggling in league 1 because of the attendances. That was a while ago so it may have changed but it definitely wasn't a crazy amount more you got in league 1

The new TV deal is all weighted to the champ, think it was 70%, you get more in L1 than L2 but I think the amount would be swallowed up on wages and maybe more. Then you?re left hoping you have bigger attendances and as you say if you?re struggling we may get less than the 10k we see now and suddenly you can be worse off.

We're not going to get an absolute commitment not to sell Jatta - the club have made clear that every player has a price - but I'm sure they're just as keen as we are not to throw away the chance of promotion.

There will be a figure in mind for what Jatta is worth, and I suspect at this point in his contract it will be quite high, with add-ons as well. If that figure is met, and crucially if the player actually wants to go, then the chances are he will be sold, but knowing the way the club operates I'm sure they already have targets in mind if they need to replace him, and the money will be in the bank to do it.

I'm reminded of Brentford's steady rise through the leagues with a similar strategy to ours. At various points they sold 'star' players and I was one of those thinking maybe that would halt their progress, but it never did. Even the sale of Ivan Toney last summer hasn't stopped them being competitive. It's a similar situation at Brighton. They don't allow a situation where they are relying so heavily on any one player that they become irreplaceable. It's very good business, and it's why they're both now established in the Premier League haveing started from were we are.
