    Worst Ever Holiday

Reminiscing on the war thread got me thinking.
Now I am a pretty much well travelled person through work & personal holidays.
Taking aside some business trips like China & last year to Florida ohh & having to stay in Nottingham for Download 😎

When I think back, some good, excellent & awful ones..

A place she picked in Marmaris Turkey was dire but nothing will ever top Bulgaria. This was pre our daughter so at least 25/26 years ago.. the hotel was shocking, the food worse not only in the hotel but in the resort.
Beer was about 6p a bottle (& rank), wine was about ?1.50 a bottle. The pool (brochure picture deserved a photograph Oscar) as about a foot deep & green algie..
Full of beggars / prostitution & shady characters in flash mercs etc (mafia).
If you got in a taxi they would then be yours for the stay. One day we went out, went to the other resort which was worse than ours, into Varsa (2nd largest city), shops were like something out of are you being served), a dolphin show then she took us to a resteraunt up in the hills (food was probably the best we had there). The cost was all inclusive for everything? ?10.
    Never, never again

Bloody hell going by the hotel that you was in when you visited Malta I?m suprised that Mrs bdb let?s you organise any holidays at all,the travel agent must run his hands in glee when he sees you walk through the doors

Im not one for travelling abroad so not really had any bad experiences but I love to visit places for a couple of days rather than go away for two weeks somewhere,I used to regularly stay over for a few nights if Notts was playing away somewhere nice or interesting (I didn?t bother stopping in Rochdale) and I still plan to do so in the future,b+bs have improved vastly over the past twenty years or so probably because of the internet where you can check reviews before booking, the rooms are a lot better furnished than they used to be and breakfasts are often have decent choices

The only decent B&B round here is Fernhill.. excellent reviews & occasional people that stop there all say the same.
To get to the ground is about a 15 min walk down passed an excellent local pub 😎

Not cheap though & cheaper to stop at the travel lodge at Sandrook park or the Hampton in the town centre. Norton Grange has a pool but a bit pricey or there is the Royal Toby. You can get a bus to the ground from the Hampton, the others have no direct transport link unless you go via the town centre.

There will always be a room in the servants quarters here? 😎

About 15 years ago we were due to go to Vegas for easter,British airways started industrial action and our flight was cancelled, desperate for some winter sun we booked a last minute holiday to Egypt, the hotel Was about 80% ignorant Russians and I got food poisoning and Was really ill,on the plus side we decided that 4 days Was probably enough to see Vegas so the following year we did a road trip from Vegas up to San Francisco across to Lake Tahoe and back to Vegas by Death Valley which Was most memorable.

That?s a fair distance Pete, how long did it take you to do the trip there and back and what was the best thing that you saw over there?

Same as Pete on Egypt for different reasons, went to Sharm El Sh1t0le for a week late October half term once. Hotel was actually ok but as we were taking off from Manchester a Coup was happening but Thomas Cook landed the plane which was one of the last as they then closed the airspace. Military everywhere & checkpoints. I picked up a wrong case being hurried out but luckily got it swapped within an hour. Heard later in the week at a bar a family on our flight had no clothes etc for 5 days & holiday was ruined.. 😰 somewhere else I won?t go again like Zante in Greece, same time of the year & a massive earthquake at 1am on the night before we were coming home.. now that was a frightening experience

There’s a lesson, don’t go anywhere at the same time as BDB.

    2 Vegas
    1 Santa Barbara
    1 San Luis Obispo
    1 Carmel/Monterey
    2 San Francisco
    2 Lake Tahoe
    1 Mammoth lakes
    2 Vegas
Crammed to much in to the trip,Santa Barbara Was lovely Oprah Winfrey lives there,Hearst Castle was next expensive compared to our stately homes,Carmel and Monterey were nice then on to San Francisco where we stayed in fisherman's wharf and enjoyed driving on the iconic streets and over the Golden Gate bridge,Lake Tahoe was a disappoint with it's casinos then on to Mammoth lakes where we were intending on driving through Yosemite national park but it didn't open for another 2weeks,finally headed back to Vegas via death Valley where we intended on doing the grand canyon but were to tired.
    Mileage 1800.

There was definitely too much in that two weeks Pete and i would have thinned it out a bit,a lot of driving around for my liking and I bet that you needed a break after taking that on,having said that if you are going to go on holiday make a bit of an adventure out of it I say which you did
