As much as I was surprised by some of Luke Williams' comments in the Swansea press conference the other day, which as others have said revealed a less appealing side of his personality under pressure, the fact is that Luke Williams produced some of the most entertaining football I've ever seen from a Notts County team in over 30 years, and succeeded where others could not by taking us back to the Football League. For that reason I certainly wish him no ill fortune, in fact I hope he survives and thrives at Swansea. I don't think he is a one trick pony at all, but even if he is/was, it was one hell of a fun trick to watch.

I agree Jackal with the above and Williams is a human being and when you are having the blame placed at your door and are under pressure you have the right to defend yourself.

This is something I have been defending Maynard with too it’s okay pinning it all on the head coach (not manager) but the sporting director / recruitment teams of these models have to be factored in but of course in the UK they are bullet proof and don’t have to face the media like they do around Europe.

I think his comments are likely to land him in trouble but if they haven’t worked in football before then he is correct isn’t he but of course people in charge don’t like to be questioned anywhere even if they are wrong.

The sporting director / recruitment teams are indeed largely bullet proof and don?t have to face the media as you say but when times are good like they are at present and recruitment has been clearly good they also don?t get to publicly revel in any praise being or glory being handed out. They leave that to the head coach.

I am sure our recruitment team aren?t too bothered about this , probably too busy head down looking at spreadsheets, statistics and tapes of potential targets

True to some degree but my point is a head coach is a human and people react in different ways so it’s easy for people to say he should do this that or the other but people on a keyboard are saying it cold they aren’t the ones feeling the pressure.

Of course they are well paid and know the game but let’s be right nobody likes to have people telling them they are wrong !

He chose to take the job when he had been pretty well protected by the Reedtz with us (copared ot many club owners), his choice, his problem

    All true.

Thing is the average span of a manager is about 12 months I think you would be mad to turn down three times your wages you are not 100% safe anywhere unless your dad is owner like him at Harrogate !

To be fair, Simon Weaver has overseen some of the best ever times in the club's history. They've been punching above their weight for years now.

The jury is still out on LW. He's obviously a very likeable guy, and when his brand of football works, it can be a joy to watch. It's when it doesn't work that's the problem.

With all that in mind, where do people think we'd be in the table had LW stuck around? Would he be doing better than Maynard with the likes of Bass, Platt, and Bedeau at the back? I suspect we'd still be a bit schizophrenic, but more like the version of Notts we saw at the start of our first season back in L2. Overall, I think Maynard has us playing more balanced, pragmatic football that is probably more likely to see us through.
