I find it amusing how we pour scorn on the US and think they're a bunch of idiots. It's just snobbery. Light years ahead of this country despite it's problems.

I'd suggest we see how this plays out before we pass judgement on anything.

Propaganda is firing in from all angles and all sides.
I've watched Vance's speech and assumed that he was playing for laughs at times:

    1. He banged on about the need for Europeans to respect the outcome of elections even if they don't like them. It's almost as though he's not a member of a party that launched numerous legal challenges to the 2020 US election results and is led by a man who still refuses to acknowledge the outcome.

    2. He droned on about free speech. It's almost as though he isn't Vice President to a man who sets the MAGA mob on anyone who expresses critcism of him and spent the run up to the 2020 election getting that mob to chant 'lock her up' about his opponent.

I was at Manvers (by chance, not in any active form); I saw his lousy police force deliberately let it happen. I saw his first murder victim made - Peter Lynch, a pensioner waving a placard and doing NOTHING more....
Arrested. Persuaded to plead guilty to 'violent disorder' to get an easy time.. jailed for nearly three years.. hanged himself in his cell weeks later.
Starmer is filth. And I hope he is reading this.
Interesting is that ? let it happen? comment

A lot was made regarding putting lives at risk by setting fires yet less than 5 minutes away from the hotel is a fire station yet there didn?t seem much of an effort to deploy their services.

Much more dramatic to let the fires burn

Your opinion of him isn't good is it? You have a pre-conceived impression of what he was going to say regardless of what he said!

The MEGA mob as you call them is the majority of the American voters who voted for Donald Trump to be president and him to be Vice president.

A part of the justice system in the UK I would expect better or at least an open mind but like on many topics yours is closed and seem bias but no doubt you would take anyones money and argue regardless!

Apparently he's a good barista though.
    I think that's what he said 😉.

I don't think you read my post, Frog.

I began with the words: I've watched Vance's speech. That's what I did.

There's nothing preconceived about my view. I accurately described what he said.

Have you watched Vance's speech? I'm guessing that you haven't given your apparent ignorance of its content.

You do Trump voters a disservice by equating them all with the MAGA mob.

And yet The Republicans had practically a landslide victory in the US election with more ethnic groups voting for Trump than at any other time in history .

The US electorate also had a good look at Trump from 2016 to 2020 and yet decided to give him another go .

Not saying much about the Democrats is it ?

The same Democrats who between Trump won 3 out of the last 4 US elections .

It's all well and good pointing the finger at Trump but ask yourself what led to his two election victories ?

I'd point the finger at the Democrats myself .

There's no joke like an old joke.

Wish I'd got a quid for everytime I've heard (or used) that one

I think there are many reasons for Trump's victory.

He appeals to people who have been left behind by the deindustrialisation of the US, by promising easy answers and the lack of a coherent offer by the Democrats would be my top picks.

Not sure what that's got to do with the comedy elements of Vance's speech.

Trump has certainly changed the US since taking office.

For one thing, the prime time evening news has gone from the very occasional appearance of a sleepy old bloke mumbling incoherently to a daily dose of an orange faced slightly younger bloke providing comedy gold. I'm not saying he's wrong, just funny
