Warnock's appointment was a bit of a surprise, given that Pavis had previously gone for the top flight experienced and successful John Barnwell, but people to this day still believe Warnock was managing in non-league at the time he joined us when in fact he'd won the 5th tier championship, consolidated in tier 4 and then had Scarboro battling for promotion to tier 3, so he wasn't that much of a gamble.
Allardyce and Dearden both recovered from terrible starts with us, but both of them arrived with a decent reputation having walked into the most toxic environments ever seen at Notts up to that point.
