came on here to see whether anyone was going to mention this. Stall was very insightful and unusually pointed today, almost calling out our captain by name, offering loads of food for thought including the observation about the post match fan/team interactions.

About stats, I've proven beyond any doubt that I'm no expert on here, but surely stats aren't supposed to be single-use things like the more possession = the more points, or the most xG the more goals. Much more likely to be meaningful in clusters - like xG - xGA
+ pass accuracy + passes in oppos box or whatever, but taken as a whole picture rather than as a single infallible indicator aren't they?

*** Great discussion by LeftPeg, Jacob and lots of others on here, helping me put things Notts in clearer perspective. Don't read other fans message boards very often, but we're lucky to have the depth (and breadth) of posts we often get here. TY! What price old-school journalism?

Possession for possession’s sake, with no end product, has been our biggest failing under the Reedtz. I’ll never forget the nightmare that was Notts v Halifax under Ardley where it literally felt like there was a force field keeping us from crossing the halfway line. We had similar problems at times under Burchnall and now they’ve returned with Maynard.

It would actually benefit us if we had a limited amount of time with the ball before having to forfeit possession, like the “shot clock” rule in basketball.

Good post - possession without penetration is pointless - Sir Alex.

I totally agree, that having possession for the sake of it is pointless. It is absolutely about what you do with it. I would definitely like us to move the ball quicker and have the odd pot shot when we get into good spaces.

Im not sure many fans celebrate the possession stat over everything else, like Mace was saying last night. But just using that stat is pointless. If you see what that has led to across the season, there is an argument (quite an obvious one) to be made that you are better off having the ball than not.

To summarise what I posted Sunday night, statistically we are Top/Top 5 on attacking and possession metrics and Top/Top 3 on defensive metrics.

The biggest takeaway from them is we create the most chances and miss the most chances (a relatively obvious correlation) and I would say when you apply the eye-test vs statistical analysis, that is an observation most fans would make too.

Again, statistical analysis clearly does not take into consideration the things a lot of us have found frustrating recently, but it gives a solid indication of what is going on.

The missed chances is such an obvious observation. Some on here think Jatta is worth mega money yet in the last 3 games alone has left 4/5 goals on the pitch. Whether we deserved more or not from those games is irrelevant. Goals change games. Jatta?s misses have proved costly and he?s not the only one.

The observation I would make is that we are second from bottom of the current form table, we can come up with lots of fancy words but no-one can say that is not a problem.

I do not disagree that we are having a poor run at the moment, and that is a worry, coupled with some lacklustre performances. The data is simply some more context from an approximation of a Brothers-eyed view as the thread is about sacking Maynard.
