No idea. He was funding them handsomely in L2 when they were averaging 3,500.

Attendances are driven by performances and success, which are largely driven by investment. I can't see Stags getting 4,500 again while they're in L1. If they get relegated and struggle in L2, maybe. Same with us and pre-Hardy attendances. It won't happen unless things go horribly wrong on the pitch, which shouldn't happen if the club is funded well.

If that was the case, that a fan-base is irrelevant and it's purely about investment, you'd end up seeing far more clubs going from the 4th tier to the 1st over short term periods and vice-versa, the pyramid would more resemble the motion of a lava lamp as opposed to the relatively steady predictable state it is now. No club would look out of place at any level if attendances were purely driven by investment. Bigger clubs than Bury would go extinct and smaller clubs than Bournemouth would be in the PL.

The point I'm basically trying to make is that Mansfield as a town/community and its willingness to support its' football club justifies the current levels of investment that's given them a promotion into tier 3. In other words, as a fan base, they just about deserve an owner willing to fund them to that level. If their current owners sell up, then they're entitled to expect whoever takes over to maintain a reasonably similar standard.
