How You Should Run Your Club

Could I ask fellow posters to watch the video in the link , it's just over 20 minutes long , you don't have to be interested in Rugby League to get something out of it .

Could you tell me your honest opinion and if there are things in there that you'd like to see at Oakwell .

I take the point I may well be a little biased , I also take the point that it's a different sport but it's a club who serves it's support and wider community just like Barnsley should do .

My personal view is , why can't Barnsley Football Club look and feel like that in its community irrespective of success on the field or not ? .

Why does the Oakwell club feel a million miles away from this ? , is it just simply modern day football ? .

Or are the club totally out of touch ?

Both fan bases are exactly the same , both communities are exactly the same .

Good man Animal posting this article and video.

Mixed emotions for me, a club in Wakefield Trinity RLFC totally revamped and re*****ised on and off the field in the last 18 months and still work in progress and then with Barnsley FC the total reverse.

And as I have said before the Wakefield owner and family from Barnsley also supporters of the club.

What was not shown on the video was all the hospitality facilities, the food and bar locations around the ground available to home and away supporters which is bringing in a lot of income. Injured first team players also mingling with supporters before the game around the club shop. Bands playing music and activity for the young kids etc.

Very good stuff and like you say a million miles away from the Grove Street set up.
It would be good if the Grey Suits Brigade visited a Trinity home game to see in motion a Community club in action.
I’m not a Rugby League person but everything on show with Trinity could well be adopted by BFC but we know it won’t .

In my opinion there is a whole different culture in the football world with both clubs and fan bases to the point the football family is tribal and very often a hostile environment both on the pitch and on the terraces whilst other sports are totally different as pointed out in this thread with rugby , it is the same with cricket , going to a cricket match is a totally different event than attending football and personally no matter how much clubs try to bring the better experience for the fans there seems to be this never ending culture problem with football , you would never get rival fans of cricket clubs for instance arranging to meet up for pre arranged aggro , there is no need for segregation etc etc , I could go on for ever , it just seems to me that football is the one sport that brings out the worst in people and no matter how good owners are at trying to improve the football experience they are basically peeing in the wind , ask me how to solve this and I havn"t got a clue !!

It's an interesting point is that Shad , there are things I'd say inside Oakwell during a match that I'd never say at Belle Vue .

Also the opposition coaches walk more or less in front of where we sit at Belle Vue , you are virtually within touching distance as they make their way up to their positions in the coaching sector and nobody ever says anything untoward at all to them never mind abuse them , you just wouldn't .

However my original post was intended to show how the club should be forging closer links within the community and how that's done at Trinity .

The club needs to be more open and more inclusive within the community , I'm not saying they do absolutely nothing but I get the impression when they do it's more box ticking than any real policy .

They need to show that they care about the community outside of Grove Street and I believe in all honesty they only care about you spending your money down there .

The point you are trying to make Animal is a very credible subject, and whilst I try to understand it and relate my thoughts go back to the different behaviour of a football community as opposed to a rugby community , I strongly believe for what ever reasons that football fans have a hard core of individuals who are ruled by their tribal instincts , a rugby community are a reflection of the players that play their game, they are passionate , respectful , disciplined, warm and approachable whist the football community also reflect the players who play their game, a win at all costs , aggressive , ill disciplined and frankly between 3pm and 5 pm on a saturday become a different breed , all this leads me to think that one group of sport fans are approachable and responsive whilst another group of sports fans are basically the opposite and prefer confrontation and being objectional , if you suggest to a rugby fan an idea to take the club forward they will look to being positive and get behind it, if you suggest to the average football fan the same idea they will look to the negative and look for reasons not to get behind it , I do not know why but this is my perception of the difference between one sport and another .
