Not the fault of the club? You're having a giraffe. We sign French league 2 players, league of Ireland players, American players, none league players etc. We surely can't be paying those players big money? If we are then we're even dafter than I gave them credit for.

You can understand players like DKD, Phillips, Connell etc being on decent dough for this level but the rest? It's insanity as Animal says.

I thought I?d answered those when I said it was tinkering - saving peanuts in the scheme of things.
As I described it - it?s just fantasy land.

There isn?t any substance to the suggestions.
The comments are also contradictory in saying that we have no chance of getting promotion with these owners and then saying we need to cut costs.
Those comments make no sense to me.

It?s obvious that if we go beyond tinkering and cut costs significantly - which would result in lower players wages - then there is even less chance of promotion.

I do believe more or less what Neerav said when he said this squad is a top 4 squad.
We are in many ways - except in one glaringly obvious department - out and out goalscorers.
We started the season without any out and out goal scorers which killed the season.
And I told Neerav exactly that at the Supporters Trust Meeting way back in November.

IMO - if we had kept Cole and/or McAtee ie proper out and out goal-scorers then we would be be in the top 4.
But it?s clear the club decided not to meet Coles wages.
Hence the reason we are now mid table.

Just one example of what happens when wages are trimmed.

Looking at our statement and getting snippets from other clubs too, it?s clear (even more so with each passing year) that football is well and truly messed up. How can teams be ?celebrating? getting their losses down from many, many millions to many millions? It?s insanity. Teams spending beyond their means to get promoted to get to a division where their costs are so high it means they lose even more money.

I?ve been thinking for a few years that it?s got to end all this madness yet it keeps getting even more ridiculous.

On a related note, I see Wednesday haven?t paid their players for March. Early (incredibly early!) bird season tickets must have gone well then?

Yes - I was just about to post about Sheff Wednesday.
It?s a fine line the owners have to tread.
We don?t want to be in the same boat as Wednesday.

Things could have been much better at Barnsley this season with a different HC and a more balanced squad.
But trying to do that within a business that?s going berserk is increasingly difficult.
But I strongly believe that at some point these owners will get everything together.
    Fingers crossed it?s next season.
    We arn?t that far away.

We are short of strikers that are up to this standard and have been all season.
However in conceding 55 goals so far, we are joint 8th worst in defence out of 24 clubs, so 7 worst in the league. Goals for, we are joint 9th best. Suggesting to me that we are mediocre everywhere on the field.

Theres no getting away from the facts.

Serious work to be done this summer but if rinse and repeat occurs again, well have a weaker squad with deadline day panic acquisitions been the order of the day and well go backwards again as per each season since Cryne left.

An interesting read that for me sums up our situation.

As you and Animal have said Nerf, it's a car crash waiting to happen - not just for Barnsley but for many other clubs and football itself. Players and agents pricing themselves out of work through greed. I have a lot of sympathy with Neerav given the market conditions that he's operating in. I believe hd wants to do well for us but he probably also realises that he shouldn't break the bank to do so. And I agree it would be insanity to borrow vast amounts to keep up with other clubs. If something doesn't change soon there will be more clubs facing administration.

It?s certainly a crazy business to get involved in. You must have to think ?how can I lose money in the quickest way possible that?s also legal??. We all know the saying of the quickest way to become a millionaire is to be a billionaire and own a football club.

I keep waiting for teams to be struggling so much that admin is a real possibility but it doesn?t seem to happen because the majority seem to find some loophole. We all know the obvious one in the past has been to sell the stadium to yourself but I?ve seen today that Chelsea sold their women?s team to themselves in order to fudge the books. I wouldn?t have said that would be nearly enough to make a difference in their balance sheet but it seems to have done the trick!
