Set Pieces & Corners.
When we keep saying no one can cross a ball, with Powell being the main culprit.
Mate went down to Roundwood, watching the players train, in the week upto the Crawley Town game.
He said, Paul Raynor was taking the Corners, how can a player up his game in such has Powell in crossing a ball, when the said Raynor is taking the Corners.
Hopefully Matt Hamshaw will remedy the set piece, & Corners errors by Powell & Co.
I'm sure the training will improve a hell of a lot now SE has gone.
There must be plenty of people on here that can remember machines taking corners in training,
Why does it always have to be Powell who takes the set pieces?
Surely other players are capable of delivering the ball into a dangerous area.
Hopefully we might see a bit of variety in future.
Our planning from set pieces will improve because they're now being worked on on the training pitch, which they weren't before and therefore we will create from these situations, if Tuesday night is anything to go by.
Powell's delivery has been poor at points this season, no getting away from that. However, it's painful how many first contacts we lose from set pieces and realistically, outside of Hakeem Odoffin, we don't really have any aerially dominant players within the team, who will attack the crosses coming into the box. So it's a team wide problem instead of an individual problem in my opinion.
We've really missed Raggs in that regard. And in terms of extremely aerially dominant players, certainly defenders, the EFL clubs aren't really producing them all that much as it stands with a preference on technicality on the ball, so it's not like there are obvious targets we could pick up in the summer.
If you look at the stats and the number of chances created by Powell, perhaps we should be asking why are our forwards not getting them on target or even getting to them. he put two world class crosses into the box on Tuesday and i was nearer to them here in Germany than any Rotherham forward was.
Yes Powell hasn't hit the heights that was expected in terms of quality of set pieces, I am sure he is as disappointed as we are. He still creates more for us than any other player, imagine the player we would have when he improves next season by that 10 to 20%.
That is without the covering and defensive duties he does, he is a quality player and the fact that at the moment he can leave Rotherham on a free transfer next summer shows the real issues at Rotherham United, this contract management has to be addressed in the coming months.
Yeah, it does look poor, but then you watch the "best" in the Premiership having the same problem, maybe it not just us after all?
