Absolutely this. We missed Abbott today( and how many times has team news been announced this season with some random and unexpected injury to a key player??) but holy mother of god how useless were we around the box today. First half maybe wasnt so bad, at least we had some sketchy efforts on goal, but the second half was clueless. As I said the other night, we are just massively reliant on individual brilliance to make something happen, which given the fannyish way we play, is ludicrous.

Colchester were utterly appalling in that first half, completely there for the taking and yet we conspired to somehow go in one down, just the last thing you should do with a Danny Cowley team. Today was just like so many home games weve seen this season, just on a ploughed field of a pitch.

Colchester were so rudimentary. Very solid at the back but when all the play is in front of you it's pretty easy.

Bar the goal they didn't create much and another game where a team hasn't had to do all that much but be solid to beat us.

I was at the match today
It was incredible that we went in one nil down.
Colchester created bugger all before and after scoring in the first 45, they just seemed to be hanging on in the hope that something would turn up
But it gave them impetus and they started the second period on the front foot
Of course we missed Georgie Boy but we didn't actually play badly
I was with Colchester fans who were complimentary about us at HT and relieved to have nicked the goal against the run of play
The pitch is terrible like a throwback to the 1970s

The annoying thing is, a few times at Meadow Lane this season the ref has been ****ing dreadful.

    Edit:

I'm not so sure, we seem to have "one of those days" on a very regular basis. By that I mean we mostly dominate games and should be ahead, but despite having a lot more possession and chances we find ourselves a goal down. Over the season it has happened far too often to simply put it down to bad luck. Add to that we don't often win against the top teams, and it all suggests we are close but something is missing.

Today was the lowest point since promotion IMO. Got ourselves into a decent position with a couple of wins against poor teams and we offered absolutely nothing. Looked like we were playing in a testimonial.

just meant that ALL the other results, AND Abbott's injury, as well as the bounce of the ball at the game - a game in which we were clearly the better team, clearly trying harder to actually create something, and yet got duffed up by a random goal from a swirling hoofball like the one that hit the back of Platt's head the other week, or that 100 yard breakaway goal.

It probably is ultimately 'something missing' rather than 'one of those days' but that doesn't account for yet another bleddy injury and everyone else finding 2 goals in injury time or whatever today.

Pavis Perspective fella said it a couple of weeks ago, it's not just the top teams, but how many games have we lost that we looked like winning this season?

Colchester had most of their best players out too today, they had the same pitch and the same wind - difference is they had a killer hoofball that decided the game. It's a dangerous mix of dodgy luck and not being able to make our own luck.

Still, if we never beat the teams around us except in the playoffs, it will be enough

You cannot claim that you?re the better team and you were hard done by in a game where you had one completely take shot on target in ninety minutes of football IMO.
