    Just a thought..

Ok like all you guys and gals I am so deflated with today's result...but who is really surprised...we have done that so many times this season and on occasion we have managed to nick something...I'm not giving up but the Autos look out of our grasp now... but I was thinking the last few weeks about something and just wondered what your thoughts would be...
I am thinking is it a good thing if we were promoted this season? I am only saying it as we are absolutely nowhere near ready for league one with this squad...would the bro's finance the 8 to 10 players probably needed for the step up... if we do go up we would just squeak it... and as I look at Carlisle and Yeovil it kinda scares me a little... Carlisle look to be going out of the football league again after being in League 1 last season...Yeovil's fall was even worse, but it's Carlisle I am comparing it to... Paul Simpson clearly said his team is nowhere near strong enough for league 1 and look what has happened, I would hate the same to happen to us... what do you guys and gals think

It is nowhere near ready...keep building, assuming they're not going to chuck Wrexham type $$ around.

Our best player is on loan and won't be at the club next season. Of the other 3 top attacking players we have - one is 37, one only averages 19 games per professional season and the other is in his first full season in this country and will likely be sold in the summer to the highest bidder.
Add into that our captains contract expires at the end of the season.

A tongue in cheek take maybe, but hardly a bedrock of solidity to build upon promotion.

The counter argument would be that we have a recent record of success in the transfer market, the data analysis to find suitable replacements and a defence that would likely hold their own in the league above.

Is your glass half full or half empty?

I think it would be a good thing to go up, no question of it. The brothers would apply finances they deemed necessary to make staying up at least viable, although there are never guarantees in football at any budget.

That said, yeah absolutely the squad is a bit unstable at the moment. We keep selling our best players and bringing in newbies. Yes, the newbies then turn into our best players again, but there's no question this cycle is at odds with putting in one season's worth of results that gets us promoted.

We've also had a very bad run of injuries this season. I seriously think if you play out exactly the same season 5 times, we'll be promoted in 3 of them. Just bad luck with key players constantly out of action or slowly returning to match fitness.
