Goes without saying to stand any chance of 3rd we simply must beat Hibs at home.
Goal difference is shot to fcuk, so if we are going to be 3rd we are going to have to be doing it with points.
Honestly speaking it is not beyond the realms of possibility for us to take 9 or 10 points from that 5 fixtures, that pus us on 59 or 60 points but with Hibs also likely to take max points from the jutes and St Mirren that puts them on 59 as well with a superior GD so leaves us with a must take something from the huns game to get the 60 (62 if we beat the b@stards)
So I guess in reality 3rd place has all but gone.
    But we live in hope

I'm not fussed about third this season as honestly think Europe would be a step too soon next season, but gladly accept a place in Europe through winning the cup.

I also don't place any belief in the usual shyte that if Hibs get third they are pulling away from the rest.

I'll leave that shyte for the lesser teams to spout.

I dont know why anyone still thinks the team that finish 3rd will pull away from the rest.

We certainly didnt and neither have Hearts, if anything playing in Europe until Christmas has derailed our seasons.

Lets see how Hibs get on next season playing Thursday/ Sunday until Christmas with the likes of Boyle, Hoilett and Gayle on the wrong side of 30.

I agree - however that Euro place that comes with the cup final, or 3rd if Tims win the cup, is a poisoned chalice. The guarantee of group games in Europe looks appealing on the surface, but it's a s**t set-up and nobody in Scotland (outside those Glasgow teams) has the squad to cope with it. Is it possible for us to win the cup and reject that cursed Euro spot?

The way the three competitions are set up, I am quite happy with a few qualifying games as pre-season kick about, then get knocked out to focus on the league. There is absolutely no point (in footballing terms) in a team like us progressing to the group stages - well maybe playing some quality opposition and gaining experience against other teams. As has been discussed many times, the whole thing is a pointless sham for the benefit of few. And don't get me started on f****n parachuting to the competition below when you get knocked out.

I want nothing more this season than to win the cup (and give a good showing of ourselves in the remain league games) - but it does come with draw backs. If Timothy wins the cup I would happily take 4th place and avoid the burden of that euro run. Yes, I know it lacks ambition, but we need to be realistic about long term priorities and goals.

I think we could be ok in the conference league or whatever it?s called. No desire at all to see us getting gubbed in the Europa league.

So I won?t be heartbroken at all if that?s where things end up.

I agree with your comments DD, it's just for me I always want us to finish as high up the league as we possibly can and get as far in the cups as we possibly can, it's not really got anything to do with the thought that 3rd place is pulling away from the rest (that's pesh)
For me it's all about being the best that we can be and I think we still can get third (technically) but it's a long shot.
Will 4th place in nthe league automatically get us group stages in the Aberdeenshire cup or Drybrough Cup

On a serious note while it has no doubt been a bit of an up and down season and yes I was questioning Thelin at times (still do to be honest) and the subs he made and the time he made them on Sunday were fcukin horrendous (in my opinion) But at the end of the day we are still very much a long term project and a work in progress.
So to get to two cup semi's (maybe one final) and finish in the top 6 in his first season has to be looked at from where we were as a success so let's build on this season by season and see where he can take us.

Ambrose (reed pudding) and Gueye are still utter pesh and should eb released, the jury remains out on the boy Dabbagh (nae convinced)
But let's stick with Jimmy and get behind him and as I say see where he can take us.

I want us as high up the league too, but as Tattie states well above, it is the poisoned chalice of Europe that f*cks us over the following season. I doubt we could ever have the squad needed to compete on all fronts.

I have plenty of faith in Thelinball though, but we can still knock him if needed.

He'll get the keys to the city though when the cup comes back to Pittodrie in May.

If we do by some miraculous act of God (and Jimmy T) go on and win the cup what does that get us as far as European fitba goes? is that groups or pre-qual

Can only echo others above, nae fashed by Europe. Think it’s still too early in JTs rein. Often a hindrance TBH.
I’m probably sad in that I really enjoy the league cup group stage
I just think it’s a good season opener for a developing team.

That said I’m aware Europe is a big highlight to many and I’m maybe clouded by health hampering my travel these days.

Unbelievably saw a headline the other day that the Premier League could have as many as 11 (ELEVEN) teams in Europe next year. Ridiculous.
