    OT - What future does...

.. mankind have if this is where we are heading?

There's a IT expert, thoroughly understands AI, uses it and gets to demonstrate AI on NL talk shows. This week he presented this on one show...

An author is about to release her latest book. The AI expert contacted her to a) help her put together a launch plan including marketing plan and a presentation and b) to show how AI can do this.

It took him 2 days to put together an AI "company". The company had no human staff but did have what I shall refer to as "AI bods". AI "staff members", all with names, all with predetermined tasks such as a project leader, marketing expert and various other tasks. A copy of the book was loaded into the "company" and the "bods" read it in no time. He then arranged a meeting with the author. They met, he showed her the "company" and explained what all the bods jobs were. He then instructed AI to put together the plan for the launch including advertising, book signings, presentation and everything needed to have a successful launch. The two plodded off to get a coffee. The AI company started a series of conversations between the various bods, they agreed on who was to do what and "off they went" to put the whole thing together. 10 minutes later AI man and the author came back with their coffees. The plan was ready.

How many people would have been involved in the book launch at a normal company? They will all be out of jobs in no time. AI man went on to mention a company that, a few months back, had getting on for 400 copy writers. They have gone down the AI route and now have less then 30.

Another reason I'm glad I'm 71 and not 17. I foresee a billion or two jobs disappearing in the next few years. What will all those who have lost their jobs do to earn a living when ever more tasks get taken over by AI? There will still be jobs that need humans but those will be in short supply 30 years down the road.

Set against that, I?ve been putting the current ?vogue? font of all knowledge, deepseek, to the test. The more difficult/nuanced the question, the more vague/ Pc/ out of date the answer, no better than, in fact apart from its apparent eloquence, worse than, Wikipedia. I see AI as an evolution we?ll exploit not a revolution that we?ll lose. But someone needs to finish inventing it first

Deepseek is, IMO, ChatGPT 0.4 with the original ChatGPT being 1.0

They use AI at the ticketing agency my wife works for. Feed it some basic info and ask for an email to send out. It comes up with one. If you're not satisfied with the tone you can ask it to make it more/less formal or more succinct or whatever you want. Last week 11 redundancies announced from the 40 staff currently there. It saves quite a lot of time and, of course, it's constantly learning and coming up with the desired result ever quicker.

The pace AI is moving at the moment has it, IMO, in the position where governments the world over are powerless to stop its rapid advance and it may spiral out of control, if it hasn't already gone past the point where we can put the brakes on it.
