After we signed him Adam Chicksen was criminally underused by Ardley, who didn't seem to rate him at all. Once he was given his chance he rarely had a bad game, and was a revelation in our promotion season. He was a model pro and looked the type to carry on into his late thirties in the National League, so I hope it's not the end for him.

Surely no other than coach that LW could turn Chicksen into a free-scoring wing-back. Legendary season for Adam and the club.

That legendary season is certainly backed up by the stats. In his 336 game career Chicksen scored 17 goals, and 11 of them came in 44 games in our promotion season. He was basically a defender, and his dribbling skills for a wing back were minimal but he had a massive engine and would bust a gut to get from one end of the pitch to the other from the first minute to the last. Whatever his limitations, his attitude and effort were always what you hope for.

I never really got the Chicksen hate on here. He was fine as a squad player and if he was a sub for us now people would probably be calling for him to be put in. Hope he's gonna be alright.

I think it was because he wasn’t the type of player who could bear his man and get a cross in - “Check-back Chicksen” would sum that up. However, LW remedied that by telling him to just bomb into the box to be on the end of Nemane’s crosses.
