Agree about Billy Kirkwood, the type of player managers love who competently do the job the manager sets them up to do which will largely go unseen by many fans. Davie Dodds on the other hand was the luckiest player alive. He played for United at a time the service he received from the likes of Bannon and Sturrock was something a lot of strikers would dream of. When he went to Zamax they saw him close up in training and couldn't believe he lacked some of the basic skills of a professional footballer. Jim knew how to deploy him in that great United team. The rest of his career was pretty mediocre.
A bit harsh on DD imho, it was off field (family) issues that led to the end of the Zamax contract, he had a good career and scored some important goals for us
