Cop facts tell you, that unless you find a clear trail after 2 weeks, the outcome is usually murder, which everyone has always suspected.

The facts are, that poor child was failed by two selfish, irresponsible parents who should be in jail for neglect. They put sipping cocktails with their middle class mates above their parental duties. They've played the poor blameless victims ever since.
