I don't like to see anybody losing their job; sure he gave it his best. Good luck SM.
But obviously, he had some negatives....

With a new recruitment boss and coaching staff it's going to be an interesting summer.

Best all round, a split fan base and turgid performances. He has certain excuses but there is no getting away from the fact that this squad was still good enough to be promoted. A nice guy but nice guys don’t survive in this business. Onwards and upwards and all the best to him wherever he ends up next.

I hold no ill-will towards Maynard, he seems like a decent bloke, but I wouldn't have been unhappy if this had happened at the end of *last* season, where he only won five of his 19 (?) games.

It felt like it *had* to happen this time. We lost 8 home games in the regular season, and squandered the campaign. Very much a missed opportunity.

I have no strong feelings over who the next bloke should be. If it's LW, that's great. If not, that's OK too.

It's the right decision in the end. No knee jerk reactions, nearly a season and half which includes a full pre-season and season.

SM is clearly a good decent man who worked incredibly hard. For me the Maynard era has a lot of striking similarities with the Keith Curle era. Both replaced a very popular and charismatic leader in Martin Allen and Luke Williams and in the case of LW he brought success previously so it was always a tough act to follow.

Both SM and KC presided over excellent away records at their time with the club, but it was at home where the vast majority of fans saw the team and performances.

The supporter base had become fractured from day one and unfortunately that that gap only widened as time went on.

There were also similarities with SM and Neal Ardley in my opinion. A more cautious respect the point approach and a safe pair of hands as opposed to a Moniz if they score 3 we will score 4 mentality.

The club have probably learned a lot from this period as well.

As always this is part one of the process. What will be key now as to who comes in as SM's replacement.

I hope a lesson has been learned and that's the last we see of the cheap option experimenting. The support we now have deserves far far better.
Agree with this. Buying cheap, sell it expensive might work with.coaches in non league. Much more risky in the EFL.

Hope its LW, but theres lots of good coaches out there.

A sensible and timely decision from The Bros. I'd of sacked him after 45 minutes of the Donny game! But as usual, our owners get it right. They gave him a chance and accept that it wasn't plain sailing, but this decision plainly shows that ultimately they saw what we did. A man trying his best but with no answers.
I cannot wait to see how much The Bros have learnt themselves here.
Will they make another left field appointment??
    I personally don't think so.
Is Didzy waiting to see who's appointed??
I'm relieved Maynard has gone and excited to see how The Bros approach this next chapter.

I think the statement is quietly brutal. They make it clear that the decision has been made on the basis of fact, and not on a whim, when they say 'neither results nor performances reached the levels we believe the team was capable of'. And they presumably have the data to back that up. Maybe he was Montague's choice.

The final parting shot of 'We are highly optimistic about the club's future' could almost have 'now he's gone' in brackets after it.
