I dont really buy into the Williams left/will leave at the first opportunity narrative.

While with us he was linked with Portsmouth, then signed a new contract. He was also linked with Bradford and came out and said he was fully committed to Notts in post match interviews, so boxed that off pretty quickly.

He lives in Swansea, and for family reasons alone, the move made sense, even though it was frustrating...

The WBA drama while at Swansea probably does have some legs... but if he did come back to Notts I imagine it will probably humble him a bit.

I'd have him back, as long as he bought a house here haha!

Yeah, if he lives in Swansea, and distance is an issue for him, he should seek employment in the Swansea area

It's not too much to ask that the manager of the great Notts County is prepared to live in the Nottingham area

Strong stuff KC, so do you think the city is working against us in recruiting and keeping players and managers?

I wouldn't have thought so as i doubt many of our players live in Nottingham anyway. It's probably a good thing that Nottingham is central and easy to get to. But really, if it was a choice between Nottingham and Swansea, I know which i'd choose! The city depresses the shizzle out of me when i come back to see family.

To be honest most cities are in decline, not just Notts.

Compared to the bohemian utopias that are Grimsby, Accrington, Barrow, Morecambe, Burslem, Chesterfield, Doncaster.....?

Nottingham has more than its share of deprived areas, but if you are a footballer who can afford to live in a relatively affluent area, then in terms of services, amenities, shopping, nightlife, the city knocks spots off most of League 1 and League 2 towns.

Yeah, I think you and KC said it well.
It says it all that once horrible exceptions like Luton, Stoke, Oldham have become the norm across England.
But Nottingham/Notts is big and interesting enough to live well, if you have a bit of money

But most of them you mention are towns not cities. Nottingham is a bit of a sh@t hole. My missus comes from Leeds which used to be the same but is far superior to Nottingham now, she hates the place.

Having just moved back to Nottingham after more than 30 years away, the city centre is shocking. There’s currently only one cinema in the city centre (Broadway; Vue is opening in the old Cineworld site later this year); the most likely thing you’ll be able to buy on Bridlesmith Gate is the Big Issue; the area around Broad Marsh is like something from a zombie movie; the old Debenhams store has been empty forever; and so on. If it weren’t for the university students, the city would have flatlined by now - and even those numbers are apparently starting to fall, despite student accommodation being the only thing being built in the city.

Ironically for us, Forest doing well and the Greek owner expanding the ground is one of the city’s few economic upshoots right now. At least we get some benefit from that with The Nest catering to away fans.

But we're not competing with Leeds for managers, we're competing with the towns I mentioned, in direct reply to the previous poster's message.
