Agree - why the bros didn’t take action earlier is beyond me, we were so close to getting an auto promotion spot despite Maynard being in charge

The thing is, someone's had more than a tenner on it, judging by the odds, which have now, mercifully, drifted to 4/6. You can see the logic, he's already in place so the cheap option, he would be appointed and working for another Football Radar man as DoF, and they may be mates already. Of course, he is part of the problem, not the solution, but not everyone will see it that way.

I hope that now SM is gone we can actually hear from assistant coaches again in interviews. Alves did one on his appointment but that was it.

It's not about the club, because Ross, Doyle and Harley all did them. Having to listen to SM only for 16 months, was, to borrow a word, frustrating.

Btw there's no chance Alves gets this, he will go back to his old role or something under Gagliardi I reckon.

An interesting subtext on assistant coaches being interviewed is what happened with the Saunders brothers that led to the bust up
One of their gripes was that they and the manager had no say in which players were coming in
The club view was that they knew this when they were appointed so they should just get on with it

We recruited well in some cases, Abbott, Bass, Platty and Bedeu for example but poorly in many others. Apart from Jarvis (when he fancies it) who else has done well?
Others have said that Maynard lost some of his best players, Macca, Dan, Nemane plus Robertson & JJ for most of the season through injury
My fear is that whoever is coming in will have to work under the same conditions and see players coming in that he doesn't want or need

Which is why a lot of Managers/ Coaches don't apply and or turn us down they want their own players, style and tactics.

First time I've heard or read that.
If true, it's poor form to kick off about something that was made clear from the start. The model and division of labour makes perfect sense and coaches should concentrate on coaching what they have in front of them.
Our recruitment over the last 5 years is light years ahead of the 5 years before, that had us relegated to non-league in the end.

Isn't that why we have head coaches not managers!? The club gets them, the coach is supposedly meant to coach them into being better players within the style of play adopted.?...

I wonder if recruitment, contracts is covered when they do their coaching badges. If not, they shouldn't ever have control over this.

Style? The owners want to play entertaining, attacking, skill/possession based football I think. Not too much to ask and hard to argue against
Tactics? I think as long as the above is met, a coach is free to do it his way

Didn't Saunders in his Interview say that they were watching Jarvis and Whitaker when at Wealdstone and they were their recommendations to the board? I'm not sure it's true that the head coach has no say. Williams brought in Baldwin for example. The manager is on the transfer panel from what I gathered.

In fact, IMO it's because the manager has got involved that we have signed some duffers! We should just leave it to the radar.

LW explained it that different people will bring ideas of signings such as analysis, scouting and coaches, everyone has a view and then the recruitment team will recommend to the board if they meet the requirements
