Still think it's too early to take the odds seriously, but if Buckingham is a serious candidate, this interview is worth watching:

He describes the tactics he used to win the playoff final against Bolton. Sort of a 4141 but could also be described as a 433. Really interesting to see his approach. I think this formation would work great for us, with Jones and Jarvis in more attacking roles where they can do real damage.

really interesting, agree. He comes across as highly astute, and the fact he brought it all home speaks volumes for his coaching (and the players' ability) on top of the tactical smarts.

His international background fits the Bros model too - although previous form suggests they'll pick someone entirely off most fans' radar. I also wonder if DB isn't looking at bigger fish than Notts. He would almost certainly be a serious upgrade on SM.

If he (or anyone else of that standing) is in the running it'll be up to the Bros to sell next season to him. They didn't have to say much when SM got the job other than "Do you want it?".

    Alves now 2/5 odds on.
For the love of god surely they wouldn?t appoint him

To be perfectly honest nothing would surprise me. I just can't work them out.

If they did, in terms of pissing off the fanbase it would rival the Trews appointing Fullarton.

    Or the Bros appointing Maynard.

In the context of him following Maynard, it would be way worse than appointing Maynard in the first place. We clearly need someone with experience managing a team at this level successfully. If they appoint Alves, I'll sadly think for the first time that they don't know what they're doing. He wasn't even a coach until a couple of years ago.

I'm 99% sure they won't though. It'll be someone not even on the list yet.

Yes it would. I'm a big supporter of the owners, but now isn't the time to appoint an inexperienced and anonymous coach as manager. I fear that would lose a large section of the fanbase very quickly, and put Alves under huge pressure before a ball even got kicked.

Maynard was a bit of a gamble but most fans ran with it for a while because they wondered if he might be another Luke Williams. The Maynard project having not worked out as well as hoped, now is the time for a solid, recognisable appointment that the fans can believe in and get behind. A reasonably experienced manager with a decent track record to date.
