VAR was introduced because players, managers, pundits and fans just can't accept errors from the Officials.

Grist, the rules are a mockery pal. VAR is there to assist in situations like this. Irrespective of the claim the Ref blew so they couldn't intervene, VAR often intervenes when a Ref has blown for a penalty as happened last season in the Prem. VAR then having looked at the decision to award a pen, actually over ruled the Ref and gave a free kick to the defending side.

VAR 'should' have got involved in this decision.
