Let?s be fair - he had some good games under CC but his last 10 games of the season his performances fell off the cliff. Fine going forward but rarely marks his man in the box. The first goal v Derby when he ducked was what you would expect of a pub player.

Let?s see under a new manager. I stuck up for Bartley when he was slated and again his performances fell off a cliff at the end of the season.

I say again and again - the biggest problem with our side is the lack of talent, pace and creativity in midfield. Take Mowatt and JM - both are not good enough to lace Pereira?s laces when we had him. Same when we had Mulumbu and Yacob. Sunderland function well with their youth and pace. Oh - for a Bellingham in our side who is twice the player of Mowatt and JM and he?s not even 20!

More and more I think about it - CC did a great job with poor players and he knew it hence the style of play. A new manager is irrelevant unless he brings in youth and pace like Sunderland. It?s the way forward in my view!
Well I hear the opposite from a lot of people as well. They dont get the abuse he gets at all. Hes one of our give it 100% players.

I look at it like this. Furlong has been the first choice right back for 6 seasons under 6 different full time managers and not ONE of them has thought it a priority to replace him. If we accept that between the 6 of them they have a better idea of what makes a footballer than any of us then we should be able accept Furlong can't be a bad player. Doesn't mean we can't have a moan if we want to.

Players getting it in the neck from fans it's a comfortable majority of the squad.

As regards the Mason I do wander if the Postecoglu situation is a factor. If he gets the sack then a new manager might want to bring in his own staff and Mason could be out of a job. He picks up a packet and we don't have to pay. Just a thought.

I think that is a fair and reflective post 923. Not sure there has been any real stand outs over the last six seasons or so to be in agreement with you. Some have good patches for a few games then disappear.
As for the manager situation, I just would rather they go for a more youthful approach as all the others out there are merry go round type managers. If we can at least get the basic structure of a set up correct we may have a chance at relative success with cup runs and the like.
We are not promotion ship contenders and aren't likely to be for a while but if we can rediscover how to play attractive football without skirting with relegation that would be a good season for the club. Tone down expectations for a season or two but get use to playing with a different style which at least keeps people happy to watch.
We are extremely mediocre, one dimensional sort of huff and puff footballing team at the moment and not likely to change, even with the addition of one or two new players. Just to cumbersome in our footballing mentality, which has been going on for some time. I still hold that communist responsible for the lethargy still running through the club.

Listening to the baggies podcast Andy Johnson whos watched every match said that Furlong has had a superb season. I agree with him. Has he made mistakes? Of course, I cant think of a player ever who hasnt. I thought exactly as you did, all those managers had him as a first name on the team sheet. Week in week out for seasons. Speaks volumes.
