If we are going to draw this SM saga to a close then we should all agree that ultimately the fault lies with the owners and nobody else. Whatever research they did before giving the bloke the job was pretty pi55 poor.

That?s not drawing a line under it that?s just saying he was cr@p and it?s the owners fault though 😂 when others are saying it was him, injuries and squad.
It?s gone now, though if the likes of Gordon, Tarsoulla, Palmer and Grant are on fire next season it may shine a light on it again.

In no cases could any of us do a better job and it shows what level of understanding you have for the game if you think you could. It?s like saying you could cook a better meal than a Michelin starred chef because you?ve spent your life eating food and cooking the odd bacon sandwich.
A friend of mine coaches at Luton Town and the detail and knowledge of the game is so in depth. And not only have you got to have that knowledge, you?ve got to have the ability to coach it, you?ve got to have the ability to motivate different personalities from different backgrounds, you?ve got to keep fringe players happy.
It?s slightly more than throwing your arms around on a Saturday afternoon. I think you need to step away from the Mike Bassett DVD!
I?ve never once said SM had to go. After he was sacked I said I thought it was harsh but all things considered it was probably the right decision.
I still think that?s the case but as I?ve already said, I?m finding it even harsher as the dust has settled.

It should have settled at the end of last season, and let him get back to Installing broadband connections..

However, a spate of injuries, the asset-stripping of the squad and lack of re-investment, no support staff and a general lack of belief from the player also contributed to last season's damp squib.

In my view, a combination of the above factors led to a perfect storm of failure. Sadly, the bad news has just kept on coming since Christmas. As a fanbase, we need some good news to rally around, because I would expect that the majority feel somewhat glum at the minute.

    Hopefully, that comes soon.
Some really good points in your post and demonstrates that the Head Coach is one piece (albeit a big piece) of the jigsaw which includes owners, recruitment team, players, coaches and other support staff. In such instances of failure then there has to be collective responsibility.

With what appears to have been a clearing of the decks during May let's hope the tide turns and we start to have some good news with incomings such as the head coach, assistant coaches and a handful of key first team players over the next couple of months so that come Saturday 2nd August the fan base is full of pre-season optimism.

To be honest Durham, I find your consistency admirable, but your inability to be able to comprehend any sort of context or nuance totally baffling.

My gatekeeper comment was more about the boring I go to games and you dont so your opinion is not as valid as mine argument. That I find tedious.

Well that sounds like an admission that you never gave him a chance from the start.

I agree in retrospect possibly the best initial approach would have been to have gone gung ho with who was available defensively and midfield but I guess hindsight?s a wonderful thing.
SM start of tho season with injuries and departures seemed to have the opposite issue as LW, no attacking threats down the wings or creativity which LW had, inverted or not JJ and nemane offered a real threat. That said our goals scored and goal difference wasn?t too shabby, fine margins in some games and ultimately ones at home. He wasn?t terrible, he did ok and that could be said for the squad too, but ok doesn?t get you promoted.
You're right about a few heavy concessions before we lost Palmer and Bostock, I should've said results. Games really did look completely different with both of them out.

Glad you mentioned Colchester. Losing 5-4 there is the same as 1-0, which we did this season. Many went nuts on the 5-4 but I much prefer it to this season's 1-0, which was a pivotal run-in game and one that sums up the main problem under SM. The players weren't mentally prepared for match situations. We had an entire half to get the much needed equaliser but watching it back on PiesPlayer we just went through the tactical motions and tamely went down to a defeat without any real passion

In his little world if you watch a game on TV your opinion doesn?t count. No me neither

Regardless whether in person or via the TV you can?t have failed to notice that overall we were poor and ineffective at home but also good and effective away from home. Tell me I?m wrong.
