Sadly if someone offers 80 million for Tino, we have to sell. Such is life under this sh*tty PSR.
The key question is who we then spend the money on.
Bonny lads and lasses, how's it all gannin?
The transfer asylum is in full cuckoo crazy mode. The Bummo meltdowns on X are just insane. Seriously people need to get a life.
The panic around Trafford being linked to City is another one that's gather pace online too. If NUFC want him, they need to go and get him. Simple as that. Not worth losing sleep over or getting the blood pressure up for.
This morning I had sometime to myself and have trawled a few NUFC fan channels, ended up watching LB the City fan's channel and the discussion was focused on the Right Back replacement for Kyle Walker.
They love Tino, they are talking about spending around 80million quid on him. All fan banter of course, nothing official from city.
In the Athletic today, the reports coming out of Newcastle United are that 'We will rebuff all bids for Gordon, Tino, Bruno, Tonali & Isak.' LB said City might still go and test the waters with a big 80million bid.
That got me to thinking.
How we were all confused and surprised when Eddie Howe signed Tino and Hall season before this one. In our minds we didn't need a left or a right back.
One phrase, one statement Eddie made when we signed those two came back to me.
I'm paraphrasing of course but it was something along the lines of "We look to sign the best players available, when they become available. Both Tino & Lewis have the potential to become world class. They became available so we took advantage of that availability and brought them in."
We did exactly the same with Bruno & Tonali. They became available, Tonali especially, no one really thought we needed another CMF but we're all in love with the quality of the lad and he's only just turning 25.
Same thing happened with Isak. We were minutes away from signing Joao Pedro. Romano'd sent out his 'Here we go' and then boom Isak turned up because he became available.
When Eddie says 'we need to act fast'. I don't believe he means early in the window, I think he means fast when players, our top targets become available.
It's a different thing. A lot of clubs, owners, recruitment teams, players have gone on holiday now, the World Club Cup is a distraction for a few but not for the most.
I don't see us being concerned about anything like the Bummo deal, which looks to be financially excessive, Brentford want +65m poss more than 70m & the lad wants 200 grand a week.
Whilst no doubt Eddie is an admirer, I have no doubts that there is a player somewhere in Spain (like Isak), in France (like Bruno & a lesser extent Botman), in Italy (like Sanrdo) who are at the top of lists for each of our desired positions.
We'll have to see what happens but I'm certainly more philosophical today listening to other fans covert our players and know they have less than a 5% chance of getting them out of our club.
Great to hear!

They're not an arrogant bunch like the Filth's channels. It's generally more nuanced discussion.

Yes and no.
I mean, the head would say yes - that kind of profit is superb business. We paid 40m 2 years ago. His value has amortised to 24m. So we'd book 56m in profit selling for 80million quid to City.
Heart would say no - I'm sure there are other gems out there who could come in and do a job but we'd always see him at City balling out and think he should be doing that in a toon shirt. Also, he's getting programmed with 2 yrs of training with Eddie so he's becoming the one of the spine of the team, the core first teamers.
Below is the players I consider the 1st team, first choice players.
No Keeper, No Right CB & no RWF. The rest of the positions speak for themselves. Arguably Barnes/Gordon. That's what we need to get to for every position.

No, I agree. I wouldn?t have posted that we should sell Tino in a million years if it weren?t for PSR. The rules are a blight on sporting integrity and a level playing field.
No matter who they are, I think it's a case that everyone has a price. As Pat says, if they come up with 100m quid then we really have to take it. I mean that's end of any kinds of PSR issues.
It would be dumb to not take 100m. Remains to be seen whether City would spend that kind of cash on a right back.
However, like auld Geordie saying gans "Shy Bairns get nowt".
If they come a knocking, we ask. If we don't ask we dont get 100% of the time
