Williams is Favourite [New Head Coach speculation thread]

first time back in the 2nd division competing for a play off place until our manager was poached ! That the kind of failure I can live with. 2nd season in the second division play off defeats. That's the kind of failure I can live with.

But how long can you live with it? The last two seasons haven't been a disaster, but as gumpy said I think we've underachieved in both. Could you live with top half or playoff failure for the next few seasons simply because we're continuing to build for the future?

We spent 4 years building in the NL until promotion to L2. If it takes another 2 years in L2 to get promotion to L1, then yes, if we're not breaking the bank doing it and building a team that can compete each time they go up a level.

The bros goal is incremental progress, or to improve the likelihood of success each season. If it takes four years to get promoted but each year we're a better side, I'm cool with that. Better then getting promoted and then relegated straight after, or losing in the playoffs one season and then struggling the next.

The issue is that you might argue the squad is getting weaker not stronger though and thats a worry.

My opinion is that it will be Williams, he hasn?t been touted for any other jobs. Maybe it was agreed weeks ago and we are trying to recruit his ?coaching team? before any announcement ?

He was a late appointment last time. Maybe will be announced the day the players return at the end of the month

He was appointed around this weekend last time he was here I expect the new guy will be in this week whoever it is.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if they tapped Luke up as soon as he became available in February and it's been their plan all along to bring him back, regardless of whether Maynard had taken us up. It might also explain why the Saunders brothers weren't replaced when they left (also in February) and they may have decided around that time that a new approach to the 'football department' was needed in order to take the club to the next level. Richard Montague, who had been heavily involved at that time also left the club in February. The timing of all of these events just seems more than a coincidence and may have prompted a decision that it was time for a great 'reset' at the end of the season. For all we know Luke may already have been actively involved in recruiting his new 'dream team' on the coaching staff and the club has just been waiting for them all to return from holiday. He has previously spoken highly of Joao Alves for example.
