I firmly believe that selling Palmer cost us a play off place. He was one of, if not the best, in the division. It looks like we could be doing the same with Heggem. If we want to build for the future we need to keep our best players, not sell them.

Pretty much agree with you on both counts!
If we were in dire financial straits, I could certainly understand selling our better players but whilst hardly flush we are not quite in that situation yet courtesy of Mr Patel.
I do understand the argument by some around unearthing gems and selling them on at a profit as a short term plan to enable better financial stability which would, in turn, allow us to retain our better players but I have concerns over this. To begin with, there are no guarantees that we will be able to find such gems-whether from domestic lower leagues or from abroad-on a consistent basis to enable this short term aim. Moreover, if we did do this, would not the quality of the squad further deteriorate and we would slip down the table making recovery harder still?
I'd read somewhere that the club had a 3 year plan with the ultimate aim of gaining promotion. Can't see this happening if we sell all our better players. We have found some bargain players in the likes of Fellows, Heggem and Price, all of whom have become fan favourites and all of whom have attracted attention, but IMHO, to cash in on them all would be a big mistake.
I do, however, appreciate that the sale of such players would both improve our financial situation and fund needed improvements elsewhere in the squad. There must be caveats though-firstly, we should not even countenance selling all 3 as this would drastically weaken the team and secondly, that we do not sell any player whose loss would mean a substantial weakening in that area of the pitch in return for a possible improvement elsewhere. IMHO, this would mean that selling either Heggem or Price would be a mistake akin to our sale of Palmer. As for Fellows, his number of assists prove his worth and I would dearly love to keep him but if we had to sell one of these 3 I agree with Al and go reluctantly for Tom. This is simply because I feel we have existing players who can better cover his loss than we do for the others and because his sale would command more money/profit.
