I think this will be an underrated signing. Will eat up a lot of minutes and when Schar plays, he'll be fresh and hopefully mistake free.
Add to that, before we swooped for Sven, Maldini had originally planned to have Thiaw and Botman as his centreback pairing at Milan - about as good a compliment to their skills as you can get.
Yeah I remember that 2 yrs ago Maldini's plan was for the two to be the long term CB pair for the Curva Sud faithful.
One of the greatest defenders on football history, saw the two young talents potential paired together as the long term future of AC Milan.
This is exactly the profile of player we should be signing. Get the Scalvini level players in next summer when we're back in the Champions League for the 2nd season in a row.
Again we should be targeting this profile of player. Eddie turns them in to world class players and they don't feature on the cartel top target list.
As I've banged on about to anyone who will listen, the striker target should be Woltemade, Only Bayern chasing and no seriously. He's the same profile of player as Thiaw.
Also, another German. That means obviously Woltemade will be next in the door.
Thiaw is a massive signing.
He, like most of the Milan side last year, struggled, but during pre-season he's been phenomenal. Allegri, who recently returned to manage the club, apparently rates him big time and is sad to see him go.
Interestingly, Como (managed by Fabregas) made a bid for him right by the start of the transfer window which was slighty lower than our reported bid - it was accepted by Milan. But apparently he didn't want to go or they couldn't agree on the terms etc., after which Allegri put him straight back into the starting eleven of the pre-season matches and he hasn't looked back.
Key points; he wants to come to Newcastle, is a German international and there's loads of potential to step up his game. Eddie will have a riot with him. Milan fans sad to see him go. A bit like Tonali, but less established. Great signing.
Generally, we should look at the Serie A for signings to avoid inflated prices. Thuram from Inter is one of the most underrated players of the game and would cost close to half of what a flop like Jackson would cost.
One of the Scouse targets is Barcola. We should stick a cheeky bid in.
I honestly would not be upset if we brought Jackson in, I feel he has been scapegoated a bit at Chelsea - he?s still raw but I would expect the Howe effect see him improve and step up to the next level.
The issue for me would be Chelseas asking price. We shouldn?t be paying 60-70m for a player they are actively wanting out of the club.
35-40m for me!
I haven't seen enough of him and I don't know if he has the right spark and attitude, but even if he does, I think we need to be looking at other leagues where we are more succesful in dealing with the top clubs. Instead of paying x amount of millions of pounds to a direct competitor in our own league.
For that price, yes. Not convinced about his tendency for cards though, would prefer someone else and another in. If its Wissa, so be it reluctantly.
If conditions are right, ie a repentant Isak - that would be ideal for a year then sell abroad but reckon that ship has sailed.
