When the opposing manager and by virtue of that, the opposing team, know your formation and how you're effectively going to line up players wise every match then you've already lost half the battle. It certainly makes me believe that the great start we had to last season was simply down to Jimmy being an unknown quantity in the league and once the first round and a bit of fixtures were passed then every manager worth their salt knew how to shut us down.
Having us set up in a 4231 formation, especially when the 2 are in their mid 30's basically has you with only 4 attacking minded players in the 11. With the greatest of respect to our league that is totally unacceptable, especially when we're playing at home.
I guarantee that if Jimmy does go, which it appears he will very soon based off of the last 10 months performances and results, that the next manager coming in, whether it's caretaker or full time, will instantly change shape and go with a simpler 442 or 433 that 99% of players grew up playing and are comfortable with. We're not in a sticky position where we'd have to go round pegs/square holes to facilitate this as we have quite a balanced squad in terms of natural positions and also with age/experience.
I held out hope that once Jimmy had this full summer window to get in his players and ditch who he didn't want that we'd see an instant impact over last season but if anything the football on show has got worse. It's possibly been the worst, in an attacking sense, that I can remember for many years. We genuinely don't look like scoring ever again at this point and if defeat comes on Tuesday then it really will be all over for me with Jimmy.
He has been backed more than any AFC manager in history I'd wager and for a team that has many international players within the squad then the results and performances have been grossly dire. Only Jimmy can sort this out but the run of results isn't a flash in the pan, this has been since Nov last year and that suggests to me that he really can't change his thinking to address the obvious.
