Freddie was from just down the road from here and his sister was the steward at the Bomarsund Miners' Welfare Club where I used to call the bingo when I ran their football team. She thought that it was brilliant that I was a bid Burnley fan. I met Freddie a few times when he was visiting.
We certainly took more than our fair share of north-east talent in the late 50's and early to mid 60's.
