O/T the Jewish community

Oh - I had imagined it must have been condoning the attacks in Manchester.

This and repeated sharings of such demos were deliberately framed to look as if the protesters were linked to and/or celbtating the terrorist atrocity. In truth, they were organised well before the atrocity yesterday, and are all part of the ongoing protests to voice their unhappiness with the situation in Gaza.

In an ideal world, I would have liked them to have called off their protests as a mark of solidarity with their Jewish civillians and to make a clear statement that the protests are only and singularly aimed at the actions of the Israeli government. (and just for clarity and balance, I understand why Israel reacted as it did, but don't agree with the severity of its actions that doesn't discriminate between their Hamas supporting contingent and civilians who just want a life).

I guess the protesters who continued with the demos are more concerned with making their voices heard against the actions of the Israeli government (and others they may view as complicit). But to be clear, they had nothing to do with the Manchester atrocity.

For anyone interested (I know many will have skipped after the first few words, fair enough) but like Starmer, I married into a Jewish family. Not orthodox, but all still like to keep the traditions and are very proud of their heritage. My wife is of course horrified by the actions yesterday, and worries for herself, us and her family but at the same time hates the Israeli government for their actions and still supports the protests. Like me, she feels they shouldn't have gone ahead last night.

But my daughter brought some friends round after school. They are a lovely, lovely bunch of girls. One of them has a mum from Lithuania and is Christian, one Turkish Christian, two are Indian Muslim, one is Hindu and the other one Polish (whose Mum only arrived 2 years ago with her South African hubby and is now terrified of being deported). All of them pissing themselves laughing and acting like normal ****s. None of them of course were aware of the atrocity yesterday, nor the atrocities in Gaza, that my daughter's mum is feeling under threat despite supporting the cause of those who might threaten her, that attacks on Jews jave increased substantially since the Hamas atrocity in Israel and attacks on Muslim remains even higher than that, and has done for several years. It makes me feel so sad for them, but hopeful that they will all do so, so much better.

In an ideal world as you put it people would have a common shred of decency after people got murdered yes that’s correct murdered. If you believe that they were just protesting against what’s happening in Palestine you are deluded. It was a clear message to the Jewish community that you aren’t safe and the scenes where they were scrapping with the police shows them for what they are. Violent criminals.
Same as the far right thugs too when they do it. Yet not as much condemnations about those last night. Votes matter though.
I hope your wife stays safe because Jews aren’t safe.

Thank you. But if the people doing the Gaza protests aren't just protesting about Palestine, what else are they protesting about? I know several people who have attended anti Genocide protests and none of them have any other issues they are bringing into this. They are just as appalled by the actions of the Israeli givernment, as my wife and most of her family are.

Re government not condemning, haven't the government formally condemned the Palestine Action as officially terrorist? Isn't that quite condemning? Poor Starmer is getting pelters from even moderate centre lefties on that verdict, so rock and hard place there!

I quite like the words from the Heaton Park chief Rabbi:

“We have also been strengthened by the countless expressions of solidarity that have poured in, not only from across the Jewish community but from faith leaders, from political leaders and, from neighbours of every background. In our darkest hour, you have shown us that we do not stand alone. Your embrace reminds us that love and compassion remain stronger than hate."

Again, personally I would like all of the Palestinian protests organised for this weekend to be relabelled something like Multi Faith Peace demonstration, to show solidarity with the Jewish community and all other religious faiths that suffer hatred and attacks, none more so than the Mulsim community themselves who will also be facing attacks over this. . Don't think it will happen but in my world, it would.

I applaud your sentiments raging but it will never happen.
Any form of violence against any faith religion should be stopped.
I’m sick of people thinking it’s ok to commit harm to someone because of religion etc. society has gone now. Last night at the game 2 RUFC fans were calling Bradford fans paki lovers. I called them out it’s disgusting.
I’ve got strong views on the left but I would never ever think in any way shape or form that it’s ok to commit violence against anyone.
These marches I understand I do but they have been hijacked by thugs, hooligans and anarchists
