    Burka Ban

Several EU countries have banned the full-face veil (burqa) in public, including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, and Bulgaria. The Netherlands and Switzerland have partial bans and Portugal are about to fully ban it.

For me it?s like treating women like dirt and in medieval times ie Afghanistan. There?s safety issues too as it?s hard for face recognition and after all - we are in the U.K. The Tories have just raised it and one MP says it should be banned.

My view is 100% ban it! Any other views?

Totally agree! Safety is my major concern as you do not know whose face is being hidden, male or female. It is OK to ban youths in hoodies in shopping centres but not something that completely hides an individual’s identity. Double standards. This is the UK after all - isn’t it?

Ban it, but this incompetent, arrogant and weak government (government, that?s a laugh) will do nothing as usual

It's difficult to integrate in new society when you can't see who you are talking to. It is a very prohibitive practice and keeps women second class within their own society and even in their own families. It is more a culture thing then actual Islamic practice but has been adopted and expanded to become another tool to subject females to lower class standing within their society.
It should be banned while in public areas.....also from a security point of view, it is usual for Hamas/Hezbollah terrorists to move around undetected while under a full burka. Israel knows this well and deals with it accordingly with police women on hand for further investigation, if someone looks doge.
    Ban it!!

Always difficult when it comes to ruling on cultural or religious forms of dress because it is about being able to justify banning such items in the face of those calling it out as discrimination. There are no good arguments for banning turbans for example or hijabs and any H&S issues can be worked around. Niqabs (if not also veiled) I don't have an issue with but I do think that Burkas are problematic.

Whilst totally agreeing with Al's view that they are a method of controlling women in highly patriarchal societies, the vast majority who wear them doubtless pose no threat but any such form of concealment clearly has the potential to do so. Just as there are justifiable reasons to ban the wearing of hoodies or helmets in certain spaces to stop those wanting to avoid identification, the same should apply to Burkas. We are not an Islamic country where the culture insists that women wear them in public and are not under any obligation to do so.

For me we don?t want women in this country treated like third class citizens so they should be banned as they are in many EU Countries now. Also it?s two tier again - why should hoodies be banned in some places and not burqas that originate from the dark ages. I personally passed through airport security a while ago and they wanted to pat my daughter down and some person ( him or her ) was waved through with a burqa. Outrageous!

We have a gutless leader so banning them will never happen.
