    Why are Argentina

So likeable as a rugby team?

Style, fearlessness, constantly trying to prove they belong in top tier......something aboot them.

Do they lack the arrogance and public schoolboy superiority complex of the more established rugby nations maybe?

I have no idea. But rugby in this country has always generally been perceived as the 'gentleman's game' versus associaton football which was traditionally viewed as the working man's game.

Truth be told there will be a mix of education levels and people from various backgrounds in rugby in both the UK and Argentina rugby fraternity however, and certainly for rugby union, there is still a perception in this country of Edinburgh Lawyer / Borders farmer types about the game. Fans wearing brown brogues and jeans with their rugby tops or awful Ben Sherman type shirts (sleeves rolled up to the elbow) still abound.

I was simply asking if maybe the Argentinian team lacks the arrogance and public schoolboy superiority complex that all of the above causes people outwith the sport to perceive, this might make the team more palatable to us football fans. No problem if you don't know or even if you disagree with the perception that I, and most people I know, have.

Fans remind me of Welsh rugby fans or even football fans.

I'd assume they must be Argentinian elite though to travel round the world to watch friendlies.

I like the fact they have bulldozed their way in.....and instead of their being a big 8 there's now a big 9.

I was in a pub in Barry (Vale Of Glamorgan) many years ago with a Welsh mate when I was in the RAF. Scotland egg chasers were playing Wales egg chasers at Murrayfield and if Scotland won they were winning some cup or other. Anyway, pub was packed with good old boyos, singing strange songs and getting very drunk. Scotland did indeed win. I was thinking football supporters and that I was in trouble and likely to get a hiding - nothing of the sort, they all (well a lot of them) insisted on buying me a pint, we ended up with around six**** pints on the table and as many in the tap for later.

Strange lot but the nicest people you could ever meet.

Welsh rugby definitely working class imo. Have friends in Wales and once went to see Scotland play (lose) against Wales at Cardiff Arms Park about 40 years or so ago. The fans were great both at the game and at the local rugby club the night before. These guys can sure drink! Strange night though. Most there were good singers your typical Welsh tenors. The evening started with communal singing of the dirtiest form of rugby songs you could imagine, followed by singing in Welsh various songs including their national anthem and ended up with drunken renditions of a good number of pious hymns.

As you said "Strange lot but the nicest folk you could ever meet".

I think its definitely due to their total home grown players or nearly if not 100%. Most other top rugby nations "import" players probably bar the springboks.
