Romared Match Thoughts Barnsley v Leyton Orient

We need to get back to winning ways in the league and set ourselves up for the xmas period when the games come thick and fast , a good rest of the month could really lift everyone and make that league table more encouraging .

Well Orient certainly had our number last year lets hope for a change of fortune this season , we are missing our captain and I am not sure how he will set his team up to compensate , I hope that we change our style from the other night , see DeGivinnea tip tapping about at the back puts the fear of God up me , he is so slow it is embarrassing , I want to see him sat next to me in the west stand and nowhere near the pitch , I want see some old fashioned foot through the ball defending as third rate defenders cannot play out from the back it is as simple as that but we will see , 3 points would be great but I am not confident .

I think that game just about reflected this season in just 90 minutes , sublime and ridiculous , credit where it's due the team kept fighting with Cleary and Kelly outstanding , not much changes with MDG mind , what an awful defender he is , dear me .

More questions than answers though , God only knows how this season will go , thing is I don't think Hourihane knows either .

Defensively we are horrific. Brain dead moments and defensive lapses are far, far too frequent for us. Compare it to the defensive units we’ve got promoted with before, it is night and day.

Going forward though we looked good. The only gripe is that the early domination we had today, we should’ve had more than 1 goal.

Lastly, Reyes Cleary. What a find he has been for the club. I liked the look of him as soon as I saw him but didn’t think he would be at this level for us already. He’s our main man right now and his goal and assist output recently has been brilliant. I did notice that Lincoln on Tuesday were doubling and sometimes tripling up on him so it’s up to our other players to make the most of this too.

Be nice to build some momentum with hopefully another positive result next weekend. Fair play to anyone making that away trip just before Christmas.

It was certainly a Jeykill and Hyde performance with us once again having to score 3 goals to win a match but at least we showed we had enough character to climb off the canvass and take the points. I agree with Nerthender that our defending at times is border line comical with Degivinea being the main culprit , everyone wants him to do well but I am afraid we have reached the point where he has to go , he has not improved from day 1 , he is so slow it is like he is towing a caravan and basically he is a total liability also yesterday the protection offered by Connel was missing with both their goals coming from mistakes by players trying to do his job, Phillips with the first and Yoga with the second gifted the Orient with their goals both were preventable and to be honest bread and butter for Connel , he deals with these situations all day long and yesterday he was certainly missed although his critics will probably disagree but at the end of the day I came out of Oakwell feeling relieved about the result but knowing I had just witnessed two poor third division sides serve up average fair !!

I made the trip up to Oakwell yesterday and you could palpably feel the fans nervousness whenever Mael was having to defend! Seriously though we would do better with a cardboard cut out than him!
I along with others discussed why Earl and Roberts were on the bench, if they are fit enough for the bench then they should have been on the pitch, if not fully fit then half the game each?
He could have started with Watson R/B Shepherd and Roberts centre, Mael L/B cis he did ok last time he played there, if it didn't work out then either Earl L/B 2nd half or centre if Roberts was struggling.
That would have meant Bland could move into midfield with Kelly, because Phillips is not by any means a defensive midfielder!
Why was Gent nowhere to be seen? MOTM against Peterborough and 90 minutes under his belt and not been seen since? It's a mystery!
If we are to do anything this season we MUST get and experienced central defender brought in, in January as well as a strong striker who can hold the ball up top to alleviate pressure!

A couple of smart signings in January and this could be a really good season because there is plenty to get excited about , it's just that individual errors and some players are undoing all the good things about this group .

There's some real talent in this group , Cleary and Kelly are extremely talented and exciting players to watch but their ability won't be enough whilst errors and certain individuals drag us down .

    Mael out
    Rooney returned
    Ogbeta returned
    Liverpool money

This should be OK to fund a central defender and striker.
Bring Cotter back as R/B cover.

Gent & Earl should be enough to cover L/B
Barrett is good cover as C/B
Jalo is good cover up front.

I agree with most of your suggestions apart from bringing Cotter back, he cannot get a regular game at Notts County who are a league lower than us , one suggestion I have would be controversial and that would be to bring Watters back, with Clearey and Kelly in the team I think Watters pace could be made use of, we need an extra player up top and he is our player , he is a big lad and brings something different to the squad , used effectively he could still be an assett but i know my thoughts will split opinion.

I didn't realise that Cotter hadn't been playing for Notts County, he last played as a 90th minute sub on the 27th of September!!! It looks like he will be coming back anyway?
Personally I like Barry he always gives his all but tends to be caught too far up the pitch and tries to showboat now and again, but you can't fault his effort.
Maybe keeping Mael to cover L/B & R/B might be a better option but I just don't trust him.
