SBRed Match Thoughts Port Vale v Barnsley

We really don't want to be losing this one but Vale have already beaten us twice and enjoyed a thumping win over Blackpool the other day and could be on a bounce having sacked HC Darren Moore recently .

It doesn't bode well against the league's bottom side assuming the game is on .

I really don't know what to think today about our chances and Captain Connell is starting the first game of a 3 match suspension to boot .

A defining game in my opinion .

I understand that fans look at the league table and come to their conclusions on that but I have always maintained that it is when you play a team what is the main factor, looking at the table suggests that any team playing Port Vale should win but the fact that they have just sacked their manager and followed it up with a thumping win suggests it might be a totally different Port Vale taking to the pitch today than say 2 weeks ago and this game could well be a tough challenge, as I said when we played Wigan I would gladly take a point and my opinion is the same today that I would take a point now , we will see.

You'd hope that this is something the club are on top off and in their thinking with the window now open , we are going to be playing more or less Saturday and Tuesday for the rest of the season even if it consists of a number of loans .

Any injury crisis and suspensions could really hurt us and my current target is to stay in the league and work from there .

My logic with today's game getting postponed is to have a game plan neutered on the training ground and some fresher legs for Anfield and at least making a game of it .

Ive a real fear of an embarrassing performance and result and getting hit for 7 or 8 which apart from making a few quid is something we really don't need .

I would like that the club are on top of it as that is there job and responsibility to do so.

Yes injuries and suspensions will play a massive part with a lot of games to come.
But it will hopefully give other players a chance to come into the team.

As for incoming players we need to see two centre half?s, at least. Some maturity coming in for the centre of the park and at least two centre forwards. And try and keep some of the better players. But as we all know Barnsley are a selling club.

I feel that we need to support the gaffer and give him what he needs to see how far he can take us.

As for the Liverpool game it?s a bonus game really. But we have done well in the last few visits. So let?s see what it brings. But don?t forget the Barnsley players will be up for this big time or at least you would at least hope they are. As this will be the biggest game some of the players will have faced.
