FFS its only rain and i remember some of the incredible games in mud from many years ago.
Exactly I often watch match of the day repeats on itv4 from the early 70s some of pitches have barely any grass and yet some brilliant games were played on them ,

Surely if the covers are ?pitched? off the grass and not directly laid on it, therefore still enough aeration and if the right coloured material then some daylight would still get through? Effectively a greenhouse or just like a poly tunnel concept, where stuff grows but protected from the elements. Tons of them around in the fields.

Im sure putting up poly tunnels and taking them down again to be stored would be a time consuming thing to do, not imposible but not very practical

It's amazing how many pitch experts we have in situations like this. Worth saying the fun have also had a match postponed because of the rain recently.

Connecting both quotes, I am sure time consuming with initial foundation. But the concept could be adapted to make it more like tent pitching? Overall result would or should be a playable pitch and less time consuming trying to drain, sand etc. the surface. Interesting video

I think the only expert regarding our pitch is ROMA84 because if memory serves me correctly he used to work on it.

Don?t think anybody is claiming to be a ?pitch expert,? just trying to offer what seem plausible solutions that might alleviate the weather affecting the surface; which could in time and if cost effective brought into play. Albeit on a smaller scale I am sure Wimbledon used to have court covers pre roof!

ROM84 obviously knoews better with his experience of pitch management, which I bow to.
