two points from my Farke neutral perch
his second season in pl with Norwich they sold his ace card in Buendia in the summer and then spent bugger all in his remaining window so I really do not think he can be fairly judged on his Canaries past pl experience as Pep Guardiola would have failed with the resources Farke was given end of as the Canaries were the only self-funded pl club back then without a wealthy benefactor just majority shareholders Delia and her hubby Michael Wynn-Jones sat on joint wealth of 23m?? resulting in Farke playing a poor squad in a dour 3-5-2 defensive combo which still shipped in the goals and ultimately the final chop from Delia and co.
Farkes 2022/23 stint at Monchengladbach was only considered a failure because he finished 10th in back to back seasons as they failed to gain European contention and stuttered to mid league mediocrity. i can recall the many heated debates on my Football Supporters Europe rosta duty shifts that his whole tenure in reality was severely marred by financial constraints not helped by a stale contracted squad and the main problem being a total lack of team fan connection by playing sleep inducing regular inconsistent low intensity football to dig out welcome points to stop further slides down the league.
concluding for me on his Leeds tenure to date that if 49 era want pl survival then stick and invest primarily starting with a consistent striker for him.not great for Farke maybe or indeed anyones aspirations otherwise it will be a big thank you and good bye but winners in coaching require better players which cost which Farke knows only to well and has had the dignity to plough on regardless at all his clubs and take the can for it ultimately.
the Sunderland pre season summer transfer spend was 155m on 14 new signings and their new look team has hit the ground running with an excellent coach being able to assemble his squad to good effect for now anyway?? our summer spend on fitness misfits and eager honest pros was 1.7m.
so compared to Sunderlands last 5 year net spend resulting in a -140.04m hit and a Leeds last 5 years hit rumoured to be a circa net spend of -75.4m then compared to the Forest last 5 years net spend at -328.86m and the West Ham last 5 year net spend being 317.1m it will give the 49ers something to dwell over regarding head coach or manager appointments alongside their ER developments and what our individual fans will exactly require now and how far our fans threadbare wallets can be yet again be stretched by the current ER hierarchy who behind the scenes now have wider eyes focused on the new breed of the one off day tripper neutral fans with bigger wallets eager to sample our grounds unique atmosphere.
no doubt an eventful chain of events awaits us all.
