Player Managers are an outdated thing of the past. I think the last one in the EFL was Edgar Davids at Barnet (and he got relegated).
It's almost impossible for a player to get the required coaching badges to be a manager in the EFL these days while they're still playing. It's not just a case of picking a player and saying 'do you fancy a managers job?'.
