I have no problens with MA's suggestions but the bird has long flown the cage on the second two suggestions as no doubt he recognises.. The first one may be a first world option but not global - I would contend that inequalities in the third world far outweigh first world issues.

At least he has tried to suggest something "practical" rather than just note a few secular homilies that you want to "call out" to a world that largely doesnt want to listen. I have to say that "calling out" does nothing for this reason - noone listens. For all the "Free Palestine" handwringing (to borrow your expression) for a number of years now, did Israel listen? No. Did anyone that matters listen - seemingly not, oh Greta did and various crusaders across the world shouted a bit and made some noise.

"Calling out" achieves nothing other than to make the caller feel self satisfied and allows them to smugly think "well I did say..."

Ill agree we want to avoid a dystopian future for our kids but the inexorable pursuit of technology and AI has pretty much guaranteed that future already. Even if we could, to take one of your issues, end religious intolerance, that wouldnt prevent the bleak dystopia Im afraid.

I suspect we are back once more to the sources of many of our disagreements past - idealism v realism.

Its neither ironic or even true! The sign in question was seen in the London borough of Tower Hamlets in 2014. There was no evidence it was put up by Muslims and there have been no reports of the same or similar signs appearing recently, either in London or elsewhere in the UK.

There have been posts on Fakebook and other media claiming its happened recently but no evidence to support this.

As for your view that protests or as you put it "hand wringing" chnanges nothing, I'm guessing your unaware of history and how protests, have amongst other matters brought about, votes for women, removal of the Poll tax, etc. etc. and as for Climate change, Norway saw only 7 petrol cars bought in jan 2026, over 95% purchased are now electric, China has a massive programme of renewable energy generation, India the same. I could go on about how pressure and protest has brought about social, economic change, but whats the point when you seem to want to believe what suits you?

Does AI present a dystopian future? It might do, though one only has to think back to industrialisation and how the Luddites objected to mechnaisation of thier jobs to understand that its more complex than you as Mr grumpy doom monger seem to think. The invention of the tractor, decimated labour on farms, people went to other jobs that appeared. The point is we at this point in time do not know how the future will pan out, we do know however, that leaving very rich powerful people to determine that future is not wise and thier power can be limited.

I'd only add that whilst often it appears that protests or pressure groups don't appear sometimes to chnage issues, it is a fact that it does take time for attitudes and views to change.

The disagreements on here are not idealism v realism, but between those who are extremely small c conservative and somehow hark back to a time when everything was marvellous and resent or object to chnage and consider it pointless doing anything to chnage things and those of us who appreciate that change happens, that whislt often people choose an option which seems negative, there are many many eamples of how life has changed for the better. Thats down to idealists and forward thinkers who made the effort despite the naysayers.
